The first and second class mail really has little effect on my delivery, most is bulk mail.
But imagine if you get 2 days worth of bulk mail every other day, with the size of the rounds now! and its not like the in-between days are going to be easier because you will be doing a round and half or double round.
I understand many will be cynical but what they claim is….

Walking routes would reduce in distance, whilst our posties would be delivering letters to around seven out of 10 addresses compared to around four out of 10 today. This will mean less wasted walking and a more efficient network.
So they are trying to make a walk, a d2d walk, every single day? That seems a good idea on paper but it is humans who are doing these walks and they will have to be shorter not longer walks if their aim is to have us hitting almost every door, every day.

It seems a crafty away to massively increase a posties workload if we're now delivering to 7 out of 10 rather than 4 out of 10 as you just know there won't be a similar reduction in the size of the duties.

If they instead delivered junk mail on 2 or 3 specific days of the week only and announced that then it would probably make a lot of people actually cancel their subscriptions to get the junk mail...

whether that's what Royal Mail would want or not - I don't know....

I don't know if they actually want mail volumes to at least stay as they are / go up, or if they'd prefer mail to die out as quickly as possible so they can focus on parcels and sack off most of the staff.

D2D is profitable so there is no way they want rid of it.

I'm talking about addressed junk mail....

but as there is so much of it...

if they only delivered it 2 or 3 days a week, those days would be ridiculous....

How much does addressed junk mail make the company a year in terms of profit.

The last I heard was that all mail now makes them a profit, even letters, despite what they might still be telling you. I know there has been a crackdown in our area on D2Ds in particular, as they nearly lost a contract locally that was worth a significant amount.

This statement is downright suspect at best.

RM should make them all go over to addressed junk mail that's suitable for running through the mech, then we can sequence it. The DTS system can hold any that's not got a 1C letter due delivery that day (up to the max of 5 days)

A lot of D2D contracts, I noticed some years back, were actually with Whistl rather than the originating business (Farmfoods, Dominos, etc). If we were dealing directly perhaps there would be leverage, but presumably it was cheaper to go through a middleman because of more DSA BS.

D2Ds continue to be baffling. We had a postcode lottery one a few weeks back. Then the week after bulk posting for the same company yet it was addressed.

Either way, we had a briefing where it was emphasised that D2Ds had to be delivered as per spec and date. It is likely a local issue but they seem desperate to retain the contract for the company concerned.
