I honestly don’t see how they think they will save £300m because that mail still has to be processed, filtered, sorted, stored somewhere?
My guess would be the same way they do now with the deferred mail, that is run over a 5 day period.

That isn’t profitable now though, according to RM, so it is hard to see how reducing 2nd class mail deliveries to every other day is going to suddenly turn things around.

Unless that chart doing the rounds today on Facebook is the way forward. 3 duties worth of first class mail and all the parcels in a day. Not even my office could figure that one out :chuckle

I don't know how it would allow them to reduce staff when the duties are significantly too big.

So we will have it a bit easier 2 or 3 days a week (we need easier days to help us complete these massive rounds, but I doubt this idea about 2nd class would make our duties completable).....

and our duties will be a bit harder for 2 or 3 days a week (we don't need anything to be harder/take longer, we are screwed as it is).

Are all NHS letters 1st class? The company said previously that they would be prioritised, but when we came in after the strikes they were all there piled up on the IPS frames ready to be sorted.

Whilst the company might say they will ensure that 1st class will be delivered everyday, if mail isn't going out everyday it's obvious that it will get left behind/missed etc. Regardless of OfCom's analysis of our quality of service the Panorama programme has already proven that is not an accurate yardstick to go by.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

Just for the sake of it lets accept RM do intend delivering all 1st class mail each day, how much time/man hours is that really going to save if a non driving postie still as to push an HTC/LWC around an entire duty, it's not like they could double up and do two duties in one day. Then on the second day they'd have double 2nd class mail plus that day's 1st class!!

Assuming it's the official RM chart can you imagine the new CEO trying to get her head around what't planned, if we're struggling to understand it?

This report outlines a bit how they see it working

https://www.theguardian.com/business/20 ... er-weekday

The key part…

Under its proposals, a postal worker could deliver on a single route on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, for example, and on another route on Tuesday and Thursday. The speed of the second-class delivery would then depend on when the letter was posted.

First-class letters would probably be delivered using the network of Royal Mail vans used for parcels. Bulk business mail, including utility companies sending bills, would see their deliveries slowed to the second-class speed, arriving within three weekdays instead of two.

On the chart Evie wouldn't last the first week if she was a new starter, in what world could you cover 3 deliveries 1st class mail and all the packets, parcels and specials in one day? The area you'd be covering in my office would be massive and at a rough guess 200 tracked and parcels plus the specials and then 1st class letters on top?
I wouldnt fancy the other duty type where you have to do that on Saturday never mind every day of the week

That just sounds like the most inefficient way to deliver mail.

The first and second class mail really has little effect on my delivery, most is bulk mail.
But imagine if you get 2 days worth of bulk mail every other day, with the size of the rounds now! and its not like the in-between days are going to be easier because you will be doing a round and half or double round.

I understand many will be cynical but what they claim is….

Walking routes would reduce in distance, whilst our posties would be delivering letters to around seven out of 10 addresses compared to around four out of 10 today. This will mean less wasted walking and a more efficient network.

It’s as if they’ve been given a secret mission to make a really straightforward job, into the most unnecessarily convoluted and unachievable.

So they are trying to make a walk, a d2d walk, every single day? That seems a good idea on paper but it is humans who are doing these walks and they will have to be shorter not longer walks if their aim is to have us hitting almost every door, every day.

I get it, but it doesn't really work with our rounds now because we have absorbed so many over the years.
