Whole thing was a scandal

Re: WTF is really going on?
Done 21 years on delivery at that place, they couldn't even be bothered acknowledging 20 years service. Disgraceful

There was no link whatsoever between colleague shares and the privatisation of Royal Mail.CarryingMGMT wrote: ↑30 Mar 2024, 11:55The very first lot of shares we were given were swiftly claimed to be worthless, "colleague shares" I think they were called at the time, if I remember correctly they were a bribe to employees at the time to let the government go ahead with privatisation. Only people who were in the midst of taking VR at the time were able to cash them in. The rest of us had them taken away.
Then we were awarded the real shares over the next few years.
Colleague shares were launched in 2007. Royal Mail was privatised in 2013 by a Conservative government that didn’t even come into power until 2010.
The idea that the Government had to bribe employees to allow the privatisation to go ahead when they had no power to stop it is ludicrous.

Re: WTF is really going on?
Why would he say that he's done over 20 years service? If I remember right these phantom colleague shares which came out in 2007 was an absolute scandal and at one point they were actually 'worth' over a grand. Those who left the business got paid it at the time that it was running but the company decided to press on with modernisation which led to industrial disputes with the Union and the company allegedly losing a million pounds a day. To rub salt in the wounds when the majority of us could actually cash them in they expired worthless. It was all a PR stunt by Royal Mail.
That is why I never believe what Royal Mail say about their accounts. What the company say about their accounts is what managers used to say about the daily traffic figures - its all manipulated to suit their own agenda.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

Re: WTF is really going on?
I started this thread in the hope that we could, between us all, get to the crux of wtf the company are doing. It would appear from all the replies that nobody, including RM, has a clue what the goals of this company are, apart from making cash.
Although i have discovered a few things, newer posties know very little about how we used to be run and us oldies are not much liked by the newbies, mainly due to the t&c's being different, plus the whole seniority thing. They don't seem to comprehend that the difference in t&c's is due to their employer not us, seniority is slowly being eroded as we oldies leave/retire and then you will become senior, bet you don't complain then if it still exists!
Our internal fighting is what RM love, newbies need to realise we didn't make the rules and us oldies need to educate them and stop giving them a hard time, we all had to learn.
If we could gather ourselves and stop the infighting perhaps we could put up a resistance to these tyrants.

It isn’t infighting when you are arguing with someone not even employed by RM. Scotchy you and I agree on more than what either of us might like to believe and it is only really ex-posties who continually cause aggro in here. Most of the rest of us get along even if we disagree, which is fine and healthy.

Bullies don’t realise they are bullies and what they then call a ‘healthy discussion’ was actually just nastiness.
Where one goes, the other follows, almost as if it’s one person. Everyone needs a hobby I suppose.

I cannot wait to receive zero shares after RM announce they made no profits this year. When in reality the money was shifted to hide the profits and push on with USO destruction

You answerd your own question its just commerce RM do know what they are doing, the minute you privitise its 100% about profit to think a corporation is bothered about staff and customers is nieve.scotchy1962 wrote: ↑31 Mar 2024, 07:52I started this thread in the hope that we could, between us all, get to the crux of wtf the company are doing. Re: WTF is really going on?
In many cases it's not about profit. It's about extracting as much cash as possible for the business, which isn't quite the same thing. But you're quite right: staff and customers are seen more as things to be manipulated rather than anything else.
