Who believes mail volumes are falling?
I don't mean what we are losing to DSA even though thats only the Mail Centre bit.
I mean in pure volume, are you carrying less mail, are you completing your duty a lot quicker than say a few years ago?
I know it is not falling, I carry the bloody stuff everyday - As the Nazis used to say, " If you tell a lie long enough then the whole world will believe it "

RM can massage the figures all they want - any postie who was here before SDD knows we are delivering more items and heavier ones. Trayed mail from the MC is mixed to such an extent that a true figure is impossible to calculate. Do you remember when boxes of flats WERE full of flats and not half and half with thin card C5 items, and yorks arrived with specific mail items on them instead of packets, first class mail and DTD's all on the same one.
Nowadays, it's just "throw it all at the D.O. staff and let them sort it all out". We do not weigh in our deliveries any more and have to trust the figures we are given - sorry - I used an obsolete word then - anyone guess what it was boys and girls????

Although we are and probably me as well are biased if you know what i mean,i have to be really honest and say there is no way that the volumes are falling.
In the summer yes they do fall, but only a bit,at my place we get hammered nearly every day.
Someone,somewhere is telling porkies.
One day the DSM were giving us grief about cutting off,he said the traffic figure for the day we cut off was 15,000.
Which worked out that each walk on average had 500 letters to deliver.
Each walk has 500-550 calls, you work that crock of s**t out.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

40,000 a day average and 30 walks and ours has increased from 30,000 since SDD and if it wasn't for most of the staff coming in at least 30mins early everyday then we'd end up either completely destroying the OT budget or having mass cut offs.POSTMAN wrote:Although we are and probably me as well are biased if you know what i mean,i have to be really honest and say there is no way that the volumes are falling.

The DOM of our office was carrying on about traffic figures being down, we asked if he had counted all the mail for each delivery to which he replied dont be silly,so being an irratatting little what name i asked how he had come to this conclusion that the figures were down and we are delivering less,he replied thats the figures we are handed from the mail centre so it must be right oh says i so they dont lie then you believe everything they tell you, next thing he left the floor and would'nt talk to any of us!all of us are carrying more mail and whats more the packet traffic is alot higher to but we are only mear plebs doing the job how dare we question.POSTMAN wrote:Although we are and probably me as well are biased if you know what i mean,i have to be really honest and say there is no way that the volumes are falling.
