Becoming permanent member of RM staff

Hi. Rumours at my Mail Centre of permanent contracts being offered to some Angard staff but rate of pay is only going to be £12.29 even on Sundays and breaks are going to be unpaid. Anyone else heard of this where they are? Warnings of less hours available for Angard going forward but with such a huge wage drop where is the incentive to take the job?

If the contracts are part-time any benefits wil be pro rata.
The way I see it the more who take up these positions the better for us zero hour short notice devotees. After all the Angard job is never supposed to be a g/teed full time job.

So what happened, did you get the job? And was the number of Angard workers significantly reduced?

Those rumours are always circulating, but I see more and more Angard new starters doing their induction each day. Even if they reduce the number of agency workers, Angard is still going to be a thing in the years to come. Management always need flexible workforce who are willing to do extra hours over the weekend.

What CWU mean by 'reducing reliance on agency staff' mostly concerns delivery offices, not Mail centres.

Not a rumour. It is happeninhg. Permanent contracts are rolling six months. In mail centres.

Also it’s far from clear to me how many temp staff would even want to become permanent, the main benefit (for me at least) is not being tied into having to work, I like the flexibility - that’s pretty much the only thing I do like.

That’s how I see it as well, there’s other casual / flexible jobs out there if I want to top up my income, any sort of push towards permanent or even fixed hours and it’s game over for me.

Yep same here. I don't see anything changing for us who dip in and out. That is surely the essence of the contract.
