16 sacks of mail dumped

THOUSANDS of items of mail destined for homes throughout Inverclyde were found dumped yesterday.

Sixteen sacks of post were found by council workers cutting grass in Greenock’s east end.

Mail, including personal and business letters and parcels dating from as far back as August, were among the haul discovered at the bottom of an embankment off Thomas Muir Street, near Gibshill Road.

Gardener Chris Wylie, who uncovered the stash, told the Tele: “It’s a joke. It’s obvious someone isn’t doing their job.

“There are scarves and gloves in one of the sacks which look like they could be presents.

“It looks as if some of it has been dumped on the way from the mail centre in Glasgow and hasn’t even reached the sorting office in Greenock.

“There’s mail for Greenock, Port Glasgow and Gourock.â€

How would that happen?
Why would any van driver dump mail that he was just transporting?
Could it possibly be a manager who is under severe pressure to clear the office?
Or could it be that someone just stole them and dumped them whenever they got what they wanted?

Perhaps managers were trying to find places to hide the backlog from the strikes. :whistle
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet
Keep on shuf-shuf-shuffling to this ghost dance beat
Just keep on walking down never ending streets
