It's not always how much profit a company makes that reflects its share price. Royal Mail has had plenty of bad news last year with the Cyber attack, the Ofcom fine and not delivering its letters but the company still has quite a strong balance sheet and long term investors also look at the prospects for the company and future growth. Royal Mail has ploughed £1.4 billion over the last 5 years into these parcel hubs and will look to maximise their return on these investments.

On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

If you walk through both hubs, you wouldn't believe you were walking through a warehouse in England. This is the gig economy.
The s**t that is coming out of those two is unbelievable.
North West are now having built on bay 7, trailer to machine without any human input, apart from pressing a button. 8 mins compared to up to 3 hours. I've been told that's worth 8 peoples jobs, and that's just one bay.
I'm at the front of it, and the new contract's from business customers Royal Mail are getting is increasing. We've even got passports back after how many year's?
Accountants can do miracles.

Why are accountants all saying that the companies finances are a disaster then? If we can deal with facts rather than wild conspiracy theories, that would be great. Here are a few more links, not behind paywalls. Are they all making this up? I only ask because Barnacle has been asked to back up his wild theory that RM is actually profitable, but offered precisely zero to back this up besides waffle about ‘not looking at the right numbers’. Provide them then!

Re: Upcoming pay increase....
Do you understand the difference between Royal Mail and IDS?
No recent financial statement has put Royal Mail in the black.
The end of year results should be due soonish.
The hope was Royal Mail might break even (like Parcelforce) and a dividend might be possible from the profits of GLS.
The fall in the share price suggests not all investors believe in the break even scenario.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

For the love of god, the financials of RM are detailed alongside those of the rest of the group. In statements dished out to shareholders or even statements handed out to traders, the financials of both RM and the rest of the group are detailed. So it would be difficult to not notice.clashcityrocker wrote: ↑14 Mar 2024, 15:53Do you understand the difference between Royal Mail and IDS?

You never did provide that evidence of RM making a profit. Help those of us ‘not looking at the right numbers’ out. You should also forward the data to the Financial Times and all the other experts out there who aren’t seeing them.Barnacle wrote: ↑14 Mar 2024, 16:43For the love of god, the financials of RM are detailed alongside those of the rest of the group. You can keep deflecting, but it just makes you look a bit daft. Just admit you have no evidence and we can all move on. I’ve provided multiple sources that prove you wrong, you have provided literally nothing.Barnacle wrote: ↑15 Mar 2024, 07:59I’m obviously just a wild conspiracy theorist.LouBarlow wrote: ↑15 Mar 2024, 07:57You never did provide that evidence of RM making a profit. None of those sources ‘prove me wrong’. Not one talks of trading being suspended and the administrators called in. There’s a reason for that.LouBarlow wrote: ↑15 Mar 2024, 08:01You can keep deflecting, but it just makes you look a bit daft. Just admit you have no evidence and we can all move on. Yes. As has been explained to you, which you fail to somehow comprehend - we are a company, within a larger conglomerate of companies, making a loss. Fortunately, the other companies in our group make a lot of money, so we haven’t gone bust yet.Barnacle wrote: ↑15 Mar 2024, 08:58None of those sources ‘prove me wrong’. Again, for the umpteenth time, feel free to post any evidence of Royal Mail being profitable since 2020.

Re: Upcoming pay increase....
Maybe we should all look at this in its simplest form and not in the form given to you by financial institutions.
At work do we see more letters = no.
More parcels = yes
More premium tracked parcels = yes
In my opinion the business are non profitable at the moment due to operating costs such as the hubs they built.
But once fully paid for will the company be making profit?
In my opinion yes.
A cruel game is being played out with statistics.
Yes the company is not currently making profit but will eventually be making profit.
Purpose of this game?
Inciting fears and doubt about RM’s financial future creates the perfect environment to begin implementation of the slimming down of RM into a parcel only company.
Does RM need change?
Yes it does.
Our world has changed and letters will become obsolete.
Would I like for this to happen? No but it’s inevitable.
So put simply are RM currently making profit? Statistically no.
Are RM currently making a sh#t load of money? Yes
There’s the difference
Here’s an example
I used to make a £100 a week with £50 expenses = £50 profit
Now my wages have increased to £200 a week but I’ve taken out a loan for £1000 and need to pay back £160 a week and £50 expenses = no profit only £10 loss
I have savings so I can absorb the loss
Once I’ve paid off my loan will I be non profit or profit?

Re: Upcoming pay increase....
Royal Mail has handed about £2,000 million to "shareholders" since it was massively undersold at privatisation.
Not to mention countless millions in salary, perks, and payoffs to failed executives.
It is a profitable enterprise, it's just being bled to death by parasites.
