Yikes so we’ve massively fallen behind in real terms when you consider the inflation rates!!

As have most professions unfortunately. That is what happens when you have an economy in recession, unemployment figures on the rise and companies reducing appointing staff. It is grim.

Re: Upcoming pay increase....
From April this year, the Chancellor will confirm that the National Living Wage will increase by over a pound. For a full-time worker this will mean a pay rise of over £1,800 a year.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

Yeah £11.44 an hour. It’s a national existing wage not a living one. If you are envious of this pay raise for people performing these jobs you could always apply for one.postslippete wrote: ↑12 Mar 2024, 20:59From April this year, the Chancellor will confirm that the National Living Wage will increase by over a pound. Re: Upcoming pay increase....
The point I was making is that if we are in a recession and unemployment figures are on the rise, why would the treasury increase the national living wage?? I mean surely higher wages would only be implemented in more prosperous times when firms can absorb the labour costs, no?

Re: Upcoming pay increase....
Because they need people to spend money to drive the economy. If they barely have enough money to survive, it stagnates, as ours is now. Also it is a vote winner in an election year I guess.postslippete wrote: ↑12 Mar 2024, 22:23

My mortgage has gone up by 35% council tax up by 5% a £7 a week pay rise isn’t really making a dent into that.LouBarlow wrote: ↑12 Mar 2024, 14:29I’ll have yours then!Nickvilla20 wrote: ↑12 Mar 2024, 12:15The payrise is £10.40 a week gross. Not sure it will make much of a difference to any of us.
It would help if we weren’t competing against the gig economy and companies that have never made a profit.

Re: Upcoming pay increase....
I sympathise. The rising cost of living is ridiculous. The problem is we are one of those companies not making a profit. Or at least we weren’t the last tax year. We would all like an inflation busting rise but where is that money coming from realistically?Nickvilla20 wrote: ↑13 Mar 2024, 05:58My mortgage has gone up by 35% council tax up by 5% a £7 a week pay rise isn’t really making a dent into that.LouBarlow wrote: ↑12 Mar 2024, 14:29I’ll have yours then!Nickvilla20 wrote: ↑12 Mar 2024, 12:15The payrise is £10.40 a week gross. We did made a profit in the last tax year. Profits were marginally down on the previous year but we still made a profit.LouBarlow wrote: ↑13 Mar 2024, 06:28I sympathise. It has changed. Coms/doms are going back to face to face interviews because of the amount of unsuitable people getting in. At least it's a step in the correct direction. In DWP it's the other way about. The sift your application, then you get a telephone interview, if you pass that you get a face to face interview, then if you pass that, you get a face to face interview with the hiring manager and finally if you pass that you get a third and final interview with pa personnel manager and the hiring manager again. When you get to the 3rd interview, you've got the job. But we have old contracts and new contracts also. The new ones being less sick pay, less generous pension, less holidays. Just like every employer out their. Basically f***ing over the workforce. Times NEED to change.

That DWP interview process sounds like a right palava but it’s the way it should be. The people who go through that definitely want the job and any time waster will have dropped out of the process.Navalron wrote: ↑13 Mar 2024, 11:02It has changed. Re: Upcoming pay increase....
Yes barnacle, that it exactly. Nobody how really doesn't want the job wouldn't go through it and we get someone who will probably spend years and build up experience from the shop floor and work their way up and they are usually the better managers. But we have a graduate scheme for university buffs who are senior management within a couple of years, who have never seen how the majority of people converse with DWP and have no clue how to run departments. Every time they try and introduce reform it causes upheaval, lots of money wasted and ultimately we go back to the way we have done things for years.Barnacle wrote: ↑13 Mar 2024, 11:29That DWP interview process sounds like a right palava but it’s the way it should be.
