Re: Overtime ban o'clock
I have no understanding of WTF this thread is about.... it's like someone made it up....
Why the heck would managers allow posties to go home an hour early because those posties can't be bothered to work past 1pm, when they should be working to around 2pm?.....
Is this on some remote island up the Shetland isles where they wouldn't be able to replace the staff as it's effing freezing cold up there because hurricane ballbag is still whirling around?

That’s some sort of fantasy land.

They’re doing it in my office and then ghosting overtime. Managers have done NOTHING about it.norris9 wrote: ↑07 Mar 2024, 23:14I have no understanding of WTF this thread is about.... it's like someone made it up....

I can't believe I'm reading this s**t either, why the hell can't someone above the spineless do manager takes action, they've got the tools for the job, siso PDA, they can see what time work stops when it's not completed before finishing time, surely it's gross misconduct sackable offence for the posties and management.

Re: Overtime ban o'clock
So are people 'cutting off' not clearing but signing out an hour before their scheduled finish time of 2 pm? Is the 'hour early' because they're taking a majority of their break (plus a bit by the sound of it) at the end of the day? (the rights and wrongs of this are currently being discussed to death on another thread).Kenfandango wrote: ↑07 Mar 2024, 17:46.................
When pressed on who is managing to clear and come back early, the managers told us it's all in one section, all full time staff and none of them ever clear, just stop at 1 and go home. ...........
From scenarios I've witnessed people will come back an hour 'early' saying 'I've not taken any break', fanny around for ten minutes or so doing kill offs, going to the bog, chatting etc. until 'It's not worth me going out again, it'll take me 10 minutes to sort get the wagon keys out, load up, 10 mins to get to where I'm supposed to be going and I'm due my 40 minutes'.

Couldn't agree more. People should try it, it actually isn't that bad working to your time!SMS1969 wrote: ↑07 Mar 2024, 18:17Agree of course that it’s wrong, but that should be a lesson to never arrive back an hour early. Re attempt any 739’s, deliver any miss sorts and go for a ‘comfort ‘ break, anything but get back that early . Certain people will get away with stuff, others not so. You have to manage and look after yourself in this game.

How is this allowed. We all work for the same company. We are made to clock out bang on time and no coming back earlier than 10 minutes before the end of your shift.

Re: Overtime ban o'clock
Happens in my office too. The most senior here work on one little section with HCTs, no driving. It’s a very relaxed environment. I’m not having a dig as I don’t blame them but let’s just say my gran used to walk quicker around Tesco. They are allowed to ‘flex’ which basically means working 6 ish while 1pm. Others have asked if we can flex and do those hours but it’s a no. I once witnessed one of them being told he needed to deliver an extra parcel on the way out from his HCT, he was threatening to go home.Barnacle wrote: ↑08 Mar 2024, 05:02They’re doing it in my office and then ghosting overtime. As I say, I don’t blame them, if I could get in on that I would.
The day is gonna come when we’re all gonna have to testify.

Re: Overtime ban o'clock
So some clarification (some only becoming apparent to myself today, as I haven't worked amongst the "firm" since we were striking and assumed at the time they were behaving in such a manner due to the dispute...)
The manager in their area is sort of mates with them. He jokes about with them and (allegedly) let's them know when the coast is clear so they can sneak in and out without anyone noticing. Said manager is a favourite of some people higher up; other managers have launched complaints that always come to nothing. They moan about this in front of us posties, as if we can do anything about it
We are a large DO in a busy area, and the section this happens in is furthest from the offices (my regular section is visible through the office windows... Yes I'm a reserve but they try to keep me on stuff I know). If all the managers are in the office, it's very easy to get in and out from the car park unnoticed as it's a very large building.
The walks are not manageable... maybe once a week or so it's clearable, but if they took everything out and worked to time they'd bring back maybe a loop or whatever used to be absorption, but they absolutely refuse to do the job any way other than the way it was 25+ years ago
We have quite a lot of female posties in the DO, none of them last more than a week in that section (the only one who did is now taking RM to a tribunal after one of them printed up a load of her screenshotted Instagram holiday photos and handed them around as "wank material" and the manager offered to move her to a different DO rather than sort out his mess of staff.)
We also have a few "piss takers" amongst the younger, newer staff, but they get called out for it and a lot of it is a complete lack of training rather than malice

Jesus. ‘Move the woman’, seems to be the go to resolution for managers when a woman raises an issue.Kenfandango wrote: ↑08 Mar 2024, 17:06

Re: Overtime ban o'clock
Did the 30 hour guy have their full break? Come in early? And carry bags not using trolley? Then they only have themselves to blame like so manyKenfandango wrote: ↑07 Mar 2024, 17:46Well we got told today that as of next week, part timers can only get called in early "a maximum of twice a week" for the foreseeable, to "save hours." Obviously this is doomed to fail, as we have a high volume of PT staff and most of us are in early double prepping walks, but apparently "too many people are signing out early"
When pressed on who is managing to clear and come back early, the managers told us it's all in one section, all full time staff and none of them ever clear, just stop at 1 and go home. So their solution to this issue is to financially penalise anyone who is "newer" to the business and leave the people causing the problem to carry on, as I'd happily put money on us all coming in to unprepared, unmanageable frames just in time to see the full timers sailing out of the door.
What an awful company
Yesterday one of our 30hr staff managed to finish an hour early and was sent back out with 2 bundled loops that one of the FT staff had dumped on his frame having already gone home. Did management say a word to the FTer? Of course not, the work went out so problem solved
