so am i reserve just wondering with other reserves how they cope with not having a rotating day off, every week u have to ask ur manager what ur day off is next week incase its monday, how do u adapt to that,

Reserves in our office get a rotating day off, sorted by union rep, like he said no reason not to have a rotating day off

you must have a good office , mines is a small office maybe thats why they cant give every reserve a rotating day off i dont know, would be good if they did that nationally made reserves a rotating day off, just depends i guess on ur office

You forgot, unless it's a bank holiday week, don't worry though they'll offer you a day in lieu that they'll never be able to accommodate and if you mention getting the overtime payment instead that you know you're entitled to because you read it on here they'll pretend they don't know what you're talking about

How exactly can reserves have a rotating day off?

Week 1 they cover duty 1 which has Tuesday as the day off. That is their day off.
Week 2 they cover duty 4 which has Thursday as the day off. That is their day off.
Week 3 they cover duty 7 which has Saturday as the day off. That is their day off.
Unless you want the rest day cover to change their rest day to accommodate the reserve?

We briefly had a manager who wasn't as averse to managing as most are, he used to try to accommodate the reserves with rotating day off but it usually meant a bit of swapping them all around so they quite often wouldn't cover someone's leave on the same duty for the full week, meant more work organising the duties rota of course which is probably why when he got moved on the subsequent managers couldn't be arsed with such things that benefited the staff.

i dont really get it either how it works as some reserves who moan get a rotating day off, whereas i find myself getting shafted,

Time was you put up with being shafted because that was the price of the deal: do your time as a newbie and then eventually get your own duty - often whatever floating duties were available just to get some predictability.

Now the floaters are basically still reserves because they never get to cover the duties they're supposed to, and between fanatical lapsing and slapdash revisions ripping walks out of the office it's like the ladder is being pulled up as you reach for it. Is this how you get forty years of loyal service out of people? Of course not. Their plans for the future do not anticipate anyone's mind or body lasting that long in the job.
