i am a reserve and i cut off (one bag) on saturday at 12 o'clock while it was raining and even snowing at times. at work on tuesday i was treated like i had done something really out of order and i was apparently the only person in the office that cut off that day(which i knew was a lie as the guy next to me cut off with 3 bags left). in the year that i have been at royal mail as a casual and a reserve i have cut off about 5 times and each time i am treated like a criminal by the managers. it doesnt bother me too much but can anybody let me know the exact rules of cutting off so that i know what i can and cant do. thanks

The actual rules for cutting off are different from office to office so you need to see your rep - sharp.speedfreak191a wrote:i am a reserve and i cut off (one bag) on saturday at 12 o'clock while it was raining and even snowing at times. at work on tuesday i was treated like i had done something really out of order and i was apparently the only person in the office that cut off that day(which i knew was a lie as the guy next to me cut off with 3 bags left). in the year that i have been at royal mail as a casual and a reserve i have cut off about 5 times and each time i am treated like a criminal by the managers. it doesnt bother me too much but can anybody let me know the exact rules of cutting off so that i know what i can and cant do. thanks
However, there is one golden rule Royal Mail cannot make you work overtime. All overtime is voluntary and if you don't want to work over you don't have too. It is then Managements problem to sort out as long as you follow local guidelines, and always, but always have a witness.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

I am a new postie, and I am on a temp contact and been at my office for over 5 weeks, but lately I have been cutting off, because I am getting out at silly times, like midday and I have about 8 or 9 bags to delivered up to 2pm, its impossible to do,or I could carry on till 7pm, unless you are a experience postie, but even some of the experience posties have been getting back late, or have been cutting off, but I know how you feel, when you do say you are cutting of, the managers can be really intimidatingspeedfreak191a wrote:i am a reserve and i cut off (one bag) on saturday at 12 o'clock while it was raining and even snowing at times. at work on tuesday i was treated like i had done something really out of order and i was apparently the only person in the office that cut off that day(which i knew was a lie as the guy next to me cut off with 3 bags left). in the year that i have been at royal mail as a casual and a reserve i have cut off about 5 times and each time i am treated like a criminal by the managers. it doesnt bother me too much but can anybody let me know the exact rules of cutting off so that i know what i can and cant do. thanks

Sorry to hear you're finding it difficult but I don't think you're the only one.

If you can get out then do and get into a job where at least you'll feel valued (stacking shelves in a supermarket would have better job satisfaction)kwf166 wrote:I am a new postie, and I am on a temp contact and been at my office for over 5 weeks, but lately I have been cutting off, because I am getting out at silly times, like midday and I have about 8 or 9 bags to delivered up to 2pm, its impossible to do,or I could carry on till 7pm, unless you are a experience postie, but even some of the experience posties have been getting back late, or have been cutting off, but I know how you feel, when you do say you are cutting of, the managers can be really intimidatingspeedfreak191a wrote:i am a reserve and i cut off (one bag) on saturday at 12 o'clock while it was raining and even snowing at times. at work on tuesday i was treated like i had done something really out of order and i was apparently the only person in the office that cut off that day(which i knew was a lie as the guy next to me cut off with 3 bags left). in the year that i have been at royal mail as a casual and a reserve i have cut off about 5 times and each time i am treated like a criminal by the managers. it doesnt bother me too much but can anybody let me know the exact rules of cutting off so that i know what i can and cant do. thanksso today I cut off and the one of the managers said, how long you been here? The can not make you work before your time or after your time. If your manager is trying to intiminate you, first of all join the union, then talk to the union, and also make a point in front of the manager to write down what been said. Above all be calm and collect, the worst they will do is tell you that they don't need you at the end of your trial period. However if this is the case and you feel that they are discriminating against you, for whatever reason then you can take it further. Don't take their abuse or bullying, without us they wouldn't have a job

Well said Leiwolf! That is a good point about getting them to write down what they just said! Where do we stand by asking such a demand though?? Would they view that we are intimadating them?? I will need points like this if they start on me when i go back to work.leiwolf wrote:The can not make you work before your time or after your time. Yes , it would be evidence indeed. I have never heard any a request made for the manager to write down any demand. They just argue with us then the threaten with conduct code and then threaten to suspend without wages, and it has happened in my place. But yes , i will keep that in mind about write down that demand for me please Mr Manager! It may help them to keep of your back if you be difficult.

changed management since then. Thankfully the new bloke (even tho I have heard horror stories about him from other offices) been quite sorted with me. He let me get on with my job and that all i ever asked in a manager. Bear in mind I am also dyspraxic and he was the first manager that ever5 asked is the anything he could do so I be comfy in my job, so that did please me
