Royal Mail is facing a strike threat by 10,000 managers in a row over pensions.

The Unite union said yesterday that 85 per cent of those who took part in a ballot had voted against company proposals including making people work five years longer for a full pension.

"This is a massive rejection of Royal Mail's decision to reduce the pensions of thousands of working people," said a spokesman. The Communication Workers Union, which represents the bulk of postal workers, will reveal the results of its ballot next week.

The changes, designed to save Royal Mail £130m a year, are due to kick in on April 1.

Those bastards won't strike. Work to rule is the most that you will get out of the few with any sense, the rest will just stick their heads in the sand & do whatever RM tells them. The company will probably water down the proposals for them & they'll be OK. They won't give a s**t about the workers though, & will still dump on them at every available opportunity!

I'll never cross ANY Picket Line, and neither should anyone else. We are the first to criticise managers, Agency Staff or Casuals, who cross our Picket Lines. Dispite the fact that none of them are members of the CWU, AND RIGHTLY SO! Don't you realise, that if any of us descend to the Scab's level, and cross a Unite Picket Line, you would be no better than them?

A Picket Line, is a Picket Line! I don't care who is Striking, or what they are Striking about. I WILL NOT CROSS IT, AND NEITHER SHOULD YOU!!!!!

Just because they lack the Moral Fibre to refuse to cross our Lines, does not justify crossing theirs. Take the moral high ground, and show them how they SHOULD behave.

Refusing to cross a Unite Picket Line DOES NOT show Solidarity with them. But it DOES show respect for Unions in general!

I don't think there is much chance of us having to make that decision.
The CMA managers will never have the backbone to strike and stand on the picketline.
They will expect us to fight the proposals for them.

I wouldn't cross the managers' picket lines either. The pension fight's my fight too and there's a better chance of a satisfactory solution if we support Unite. It will be interesting, though, to see whether my 'colleagues' who worked through our strike (at the managers' request) will now support them in this strike. Their "pressing reasons" for working won't have changed.... and if they work, would they be allowed to do the managerial tasks?

Don't we need some one of management grade in the building. In a different industry we could not open unless there was a manager present due to licences and insurance.

On the subject of crossing their picket line, I would love to, but I would never cross any picket line, ours, nurses, factory workers, firemen, the list is as long and the number of unions.

As has been said, don't lower yourself to their level. A scab is a scab end of story and we've had many discussions about the definitions of the terms on here. We cannot expect people not in the CWU (I'm not talking about managers here), not to cross our picket line and then cross someone elses because we are not in their union or association. To do so would be to become a hypocrite.

Again, I don't see any strike action coming from the managers, Al will come to some arrangement with them, then sack half of them in 2-3 years.

In the meantime we should publicly state that we would support any strike action by them on the pension issue, simply so we can take the moral high ground.
