Welcome to what many across the country do now. Delivering mail 3 days a week has been the new normal for around 6 months now. Our posties and customers know and accept it. Yes this new normal means you are delivering 2 days of mail every day including 2 days of d2ds every day. im a bit shocked there are still offices clearing, assumed we all accepted that was a thing of the pasttjh1968 wrote: ↑22 Jan 2024, 11:39Half expected this. Its just tightening the screws on the top of the coffin.
Our office clears most days. Going forward to letters every other day will not work. I work my full hours daily , delivering letters , D2d, small packets , large non tracked and tracked.
How do they expect this to work and save the buisiness. Tracked will need to be delivered daily along with specials,
but with no letters to deliver you will be delivering 2 or 3 rounds worth of tracked. The following day you will still need to deliver all tracked items plus 2 days worth of letters, d2d, and small packets / non tracked plus collect from post boxes and customer collects. 12 hour days needed going forward.
They can cut jobs all they want on the back of this, and watch as staff go sick or jump ship from working longer days with impossible targets.
The customers we deliver to will suffer as they fail to get appointments on time etc. But , if people stopped opting for digital bills and emails , then maybe we wouldn't be having this forced on us. I've heard people say they couldn't care less if Royal Mail goes under as they don't use it. The following day I'm collecting packets from them to send back to amazon. No idea whatsoever.
God forbid someone goes sick on letter delivery day; the poor bugger covering the next letter day has 4 days worth to get rid of.
Looks like a solid plan to me !

I see they are still harping on about expanding our role.
Have Dave or Martin ever given any details about this?

The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

This is what it is like at ours we barely get half a single duties worth of mail now, occasionally three quarters on a good day.Nickvilla20 wrote: ↑22 Jan 2024, 08:48You will need probably 60% of the staff you have now if you went to every other day and every day you would have at least a 75% call rate on every delivery plus the non tracked parcels which will be inevitably left. It was be like Xmas levels every single day.chickenwittle wrote: ↑22 Jan 2024, 08:40It obviously will because they’ll staff it accordingly and not every office is working the way you described it , I know plenty in my area that are delivering as normal.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑22 Jan 2024, 08:29If letters are already only going out every other day for many walks in many DOs then does it really make any difference apart from making it official policy?chickenwittle wrote: ↑22 Jan 2024, 08:06Wow , even worse than most thought, they want to go way beyond dropping the Saturday it seems , worrying times ahead it seems.
More leaving again this week and again more retirements in the next few weeks.
No hint of recruitment.

It's one of the options being considered.SMS1969 wrote: ↑22 Jan 2024, 15:43That’s what I thought, the initial plan was to drop Saturday. A disgrace if it happens, but nothing surprises me anymore.ted_e_bear wrote: ↑22 Jan 2024, 15:29What's this scaremongering about 3 days per week, I thought the recommendation was going to be to drop Saturday.

It's where we knock on a door ask the old ladyor gentlemen few questions tick the answers off on a PDA and send them to their lazy family who can't be bothered to visit themselves.chickenwittle wrote: ↑22 Jan 2024, 17:38When asked about it on sky this morning he said something about working in conjunction with the nhs as well as other things , absolutely clueless.clashcityrocker wrote: ↑22 Jan 2024, 16:26or change direction and join the CWU in expanding the role of postal workers and in turn expanding services, job security and profit

Then we get no answer because the little old lady or gentlemen have passed... Because they didn't get their hospital appointment posted the week before.

I hope Martin Walsh takes the time to read the replies to this post.
The CWU has absolutely no say in our unit and I presume this is the same across a lot of the country. Our unit had 100% out every day on strike when Dave Ward said we needed to fight. I believe if the CWU called for industrial action again over the USO, there'd be 100% in our unit going into work.
So no matter how much the CWU puff & blow over the USO you really have no clout to sway the outcome of whatever RM, OFCOM & Government decide to do.
Majority of our unit have ‘quietly quit’ ,moved on to other employers or retired. We now have a 2 tier workforce with a swinging door on new starts. I don’t wish any ill Martin but speaking from a DO with over 100 staff, we just don’t care anymore on what happens with RM.

Way out. Keeps saying “expand the role of postal workers”, we knock on doors and post bits of paper and none of us are qualified to do anything beyond that. He’s delusional and needs removed from the union. Royal Mail is a private parcel company and it’s time Ward realised that.
I highly suspect the RM ceo, board and shareholders give two sh***s about any heroic good deeds we can do within the community because it won’t make the business a penny.

Re: CWU Update on Of Com Report
I never thought of this but it's an excellent point. Just because the deal has altered the sick policy it doesn't necessarily mean that people won't get ill or go on sick twice in a year. If we are operating on the barebones of staffing now, what is it going to be like when there are two days worth of mail plus the parcels and everything else to deliver on oversized duties on every day that we have to deliver the post? It's likely that it will push many staff to the brink and sick absence will increase if they are working bigger deliveries.
I honestly thought it was just about getting rid of Saturday mail deliveries but Martin Seidenberg spelled out what Ricky Macaulay said months ago that other European countries are delivering mail three days a week. It is a potential money spinner for Royal Mail as they did this during the pandemic and made record profits even when many staff went off with Covid.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

According to Sky News, our glorious PM has no intention of letting the USO be axed..
Shows, even an arsehole can get it right once. Law of averages I suppose.
Either way it’s quite funny.

If this was to come in then I would be off. I’ve got another 20 years minimum of my working life and I don’t fancy doing 6-7 hour deliveries for the rest of that. It will also make the recruitment problem far worse than they are now.postslippete wrote: ↑22 Jan 2024, 19:11I never thought of this but it's an excellent point. He will say whatever he thinks is most popular with the public. And then he will do what’s better for his cronies.manfromuncle wrote: ↑22 Jan 2024, 19:24According to Sky News, our glorious PM has no intention of letting the USO be axed..

And then he will delete his WhatsApp messages and waffle on about something else.
RM will get what they want eventually.
