RMCtv : New Chief Operating Officer : Alistair Cochrane

Post by POSTMAN »

This week, Alistair Cochrane has started in the role of Chief Operating Officer. In this first RMtv episode of 2024, Alistair sat down with Director of Corporate Affairs, Jenny Hall, to discuss his background, leadership style and what he sees as our opportunities in 2024 and beyond at Royal Mail.

Alistair says: 'Thank you so much for all your hard work in delivering Christmas for our customers. I hope you had time to rest over the festive period. As a result of all your support we start the year in a strong position.

'A new year and a new job for me, as this week marks my first week as Chief Operating Officer.
'In this video, I talk about my previous experience, share my reflections on our business and what I’m most looking forward to in my new role.'

I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Oh, yeah, I had a whole 3 days off and now we are back to Christmas levels of parcels with all pretence of the nice, cuddly management casually discarded

Seems to be saying the right things. At least he has experience in the business unlike Thompson who has just screwed up everywhere he’s gone.

As probably most think I don’t have too much faith in any of the companies leadership.

Bully for ALISTAIR. which postie got time for a round of golf ,out for 4 hrs.! Igot home from work around 5 , each day had a bite and went to bed for the next days mountainous graft. During Christmas. , if he genuinely sees at the DOs the effort the workers put in he will see that we need much more permanent delvery staff to achieve their first and second class targets for 2024.

Saying the right things and doing!..if you watch again they are all corporate trigger words like "I've spent alot of time speaking to as many people as I can"and "the customer is absolutely key"or"WE have to get the quality of what we do even better to compete with the rest of the market" its clear he's just toeing the company line.

Saying also "...We need to work more collaboratively with the unions, the CWU and the CMA..."
As the IDS CEO, Martin Seidenberg, said the previous day in his message at the start of 2024. "... We will continue delivering the CWU agreement so we can (do) both modernise & transform our business & roll out the changes we've agreed...."

and the CMA..."
The effects of the last wad of cash must be wearing off. Maybe they should ballot for another strike - it would do wonders for staff morale.
The machine stops.

Gee, I can't stand ar*elickers...When asked about engaging with people and rolling his sleeves up, Victoria Darbyshire jumps in "I've seen that already this morning!" Maybe she could join him when he goes clubbing? If he has a handicap, any birdie will do... :chuckle

As for having too many objectives that you don't deliver on any of them. We need more permanent staff so that posties aren't leaving the mail because they are too busy driving round delivering Tracked parcels, and specials, and collection boxes and consumer collections instead. That way we can be accountable for ensuring that there is Quality of Service and not failing like we did nationwide with the incentive bonus. The COMs should also take some responsibility for this when they deliberately don't cover duties due to "workplan".
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

It’s just the same pigs at different troughs. Any and every change that comes through will be to our detriment, the parasites at the top will only get fatter.

If the recent news that the start time change has been delayed is true, then he is already more reasonable.
