THE Scottish government “taking no responsibility” on dangerous dogs puts posties and the public at risk, the Communication Workers’ Union (CWU) said today.
Dog attacks have increased by 80 per cent over the last 15 years, according to the Scottish Community Safety Network.
Despite a parliamentary vote for tougher laws in 2018, the CWU says the government has offered only a “series of holding positions” while postal workers faced an 8 per cent rise in attacks this year and a 15 per cent rise in the last.
CWU national health, safety and environment officer Dave Joyce said: “Dog attack victims are denied justice and protection, especially postmen and women.
“The Scottish government must take action to improve dog control laws and enforcement.
“Postal workers deliver vital services for Scotland’s communities.
“Our posties should not continue to be put at risk from owners taking no responsibility for their dog’s behaviour or the Scottish government taking no responsibility for the safety of the public and our posties.”
A Scottish government spokesperson said: “We will always consider carefully any evidence based suggestions to help improve safety for people including keeping the control of dogs legislation under review."

Re: Posties slam Scottish government inaction on dangerous dogs
How long has it been since the Scottish gov't has focused on anything worthwhile, like health, education, drug abuse, employment opportunities etc etc?
Dangerous dogs are nothing compared to gender recognition and other similar high priorities.
