Re: What is the sickness levels like in your office?
If I was contacted by the managers everyday when off ill I would tell them "I will contact them when I am ready to return" and if they carried on contacting me after that I would not answer the phone when they rang.madelin4 wrote:Just curious to hear what other offices sickness levels are like and also how are sick staff treated? In my office there is around 10 of us out. They dont seem to bother with long terms as Atos deals with it, but the short term are not treated very good with phone calls every day etc.
What is their plan with the sick staff? they cant pay off everyone who goes sick ?

what do you think of this then - it takes a lot for me to be off sick but im only human and do get a bad flu or vomiting once in a while like most people ! but i have not only phoned in and also given a rougth idea of when i should be better ( how the hell can you !) but i have actually had two line managers come to my house !! there excuse is " just making sure youre ok " what a joke , they dont seem to make sure im ok when im at work
what i wonder is the act of human rights if any on this kind of behaviour ! when sick you at least dont want to be pestered like this , and shouldnt be for at least a week !! another case of not having any spare cover for when things like sickness happen .

we had a postie in our office who suddenly lost his father two days later his mum was hoapitalised with a heart condition was off work for three weeks came back to work and was issued with a stage warning!!!! The NOB of aDOM said that he had to treat his staff fairly so it was the same for everyone regardless the sickness!! If hed only bothered to look at his INTRANET the first line says and i quote '' MUST USE COMMON SENSE.......'' end of .

Depends when you phoned in to tell them when you are ready to resume.tambo wrote:HELP IF U HAD A WEEK OF WORK SICK HOW MANY DAYS WOULD THAT BE SICK 5, 6, OR 7
Go sick Monday, phone in Sat to tell them you're starting work Monday, that's 6 days.
You don't phone in on Sat and just turn up on Monday, they will do you for 7 days.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

AFAIK it depends on whether or not you called in to say if you were fit on a day off.
So if your sick from a Monday to Sunday with a day off in the week and don't ring in fit on Saturday - sick days = 7
Again Monday to Sunday with day off in week - but you ring in to say fit on Saturday and to say will be in work on Monday - Sick = 6
Again Monday to Sunday but Saturday is day off and you ring in Saturday/Friday to say you would be fit to work if you were not on a day off - = Sick = 5
Hopefully that makes sense and anyone who has the official line will hopefully tell me where I have it wrong.

tambo wrote:THANKS I UNDERSTAND ONE MORE QUESTION HOW DO U GET OF A STAGE ONE
Depends but heer is the full stage procedure from the cwu web site
Triallist:
Stage 1: 2 absences or 7 days in a 6 month period
Stage 2: 1 absence in the next 2 months
Stage 3: 1 absence in the next 2 months
No triallist should have his/her appointment confirmed whilst under this procedure.
2. MINIMUM NATIONAL ATTENDANCE STANDARDS - EMPLOYEES NOT ON TRIAL
Employees who have successfully completed their trial period are still required to maintain a high standard of attendance. Attendance may be regarded as warranting formal action if an employee who is not on trial has:
Stage 1: 4 absences or 14 days in a 12 month period
Stage 2: 2 absences or 10 days in any 6 month period during the next 12 months
Stage 3: 2 absences or 10 days in any 6 month period during the next 12 months
In deciding whether these standards are met for employees whose trial was recently confirmed, attendance during the whole of employment is considered, not jut from the date trial is confirmed. An employee whose trial has been confirmed following an improvement to the required triallist standard will be put back to the previous stage of the Attendance Procedure but the criteria appropriate to a non-triallist will then apply.
