I'd better get on to my rep. My dom told me I was only due one weeks paternity leave (wife due in September). 2 weeks sounds better especially as I've already got a weeks leave booked around that time. No wonder Crozier wants us to work all the hours we are paid, we obviously have too much energy left when we get home!

You are entitled to 1 weeks fully paid paternity leave. The 2nd week is at reduced pay, (£112.75).

When you give notice to your DOM that you will be taking paternity leave you have to stipulate whether you're taking 1 week or 2.

You have to give your employer a minimum of 15 weeks notice before the due date of the baby in order to qualify, however if the baby is premature you can take the leave immediately after the baby is born.

Not wanting to sound morbid, but the last point is, if your partner loses the baby anytime after the 24th week of pregnancy you're still entitled to full paternity leave which can be taken immediately.

Thanks for the info, still got a few weeks to decide if I want 1 or 2 weeks. The second week rate isn't too bad, but maybe after the first week I'll be glad to get back. (well stranger things have happened)

I hardly think it is "off topic" - your post has served to remind those who read it of the fact that we have very important and valuable lives outside of the business we work in, things that we can love and cherish which are much more important than the political and business complexities that blight our every attempt at bettering our standard of living.

Your two weeks off to be with your family at this most important time was fought for and won by determined people who saw the value in family life. Every moment will be precious from now on and sadly the benign conditions that allowed me time with my children as they grew up no longer exist in our business - make sure you know your rights and put your family needs first - someone else can always take that other bag of mail !!!
yeh very well said :Applause .
