Late book.

Post by POSTMAN »

I presume you've got one :mad
I'm a sucker for coming in late i only live 2 mins from my office ffs,and that's walking to it
Does my head in,all i wanna do is wake up say 15mins before i do and i'm sorted.
The manager even writes in the book before i come in and all i have to do is sign it.
Got pulled a few months ago told to buck up blah, blah, blah.
Think i'm due another pull soon :d'oh! godda pull me socks up,it's all they've got on me.
I've got myself a name as has a couple of others,i still can't get up even after all these bloody years.
What happens down your way?

As long as you're not too late no one cares or notices. As long as you don't claim docket for being late back. You also cannot drop!

POSTMAN, you have my sympathy. I work at an RDC and most people on my shift have the same start time. A few have duties that start an hour later, and one person has a duty that starts two hours after the main group. The signing in book has two sheets every day. The top page has the names of the majority of us, the second page has the later starters and a blank column marked 'late attendance'. Management this week started taking the main shift's sign-on sheet away 5 mins after the official start time, and if you turn up later than that, you've got to write your name and arrival time in the late attendance column, find a manager and explain your reasons for being late. They decide if its 'excused' or 'unexcused'. Rack up 4 'unexcuseds' (or 1 late arrival of 2hrs+) and you get conduct-coded, at least thats what they've said. OK, a bit overbearing, but the rules are there and have been made crystal-clear to all of us. What p!sses me off is that the person whose duty starts two hours after everyone else regularly saunters in at 20 or 25 mins past the hour, and gets away with it because the place where they sign is on the same sheet as the late attendance column, i.e. the sheet that is never taken away. So unless a manager stands by the sign-on book for five minutes, the person concerned can wander in when they like and no manager spots it. We can't 'grass' but if you're gonna have a rule, apply it to everyone, ffs !

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

News to me,never seen a late book!
Our line manager turns a blind eye to it as i presume at least when you've turned in he doesn't have to cover your walk.
However i'm sure it's all noted and used against you at a later stage.
btw,our gaffer usually turns in at 7.00 and has every saturday off!

 Same for us, we have a small band of brothers who are up to 30 mins late on a daily basis. The weasel turns a blind eye as long as they get the mail out. He can also use it against them if they need any bullying. I'm just waiting for him to pick on someone who's genuine then I can let him have both barrels. Come to think of it he's chuffin late most days himself.

Plenty of times you go to sign in and the signing in sheets aren't there. The ones from the day before are still there, but not that days.
