I really hope you’re right.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑16 Oct 2023, 19:52There's more and more of them now with the doors either missing or damaged. Red sleeves seem to be starting to make an appearance, I'm wondering if RM have finally realised that the white sleeves are a load of s**t and have decided to withdraw them (or at least keep them to just MC/customer to superhub runs.
There is no, and I do mean no, legitimate reason for a business to be using equipment which is clearly and obviously detrimental to an employees health.
I am bemused how it managed to get through any sort of H&S regs and have to assume that the Union had so much on its plate at the time that it couldn’t properly challenge via proper channels and employment law.
It is fact that the business has lost a number of senior H&S officers, whether this is intentional or they have been replaced in any adequate way I don’t know.
This equipment is an unmitigated and unprecedented disaster regards employee safety and should be banned immediately. It is a disgrace.

Consultation – No Agreement:
Consultation has taken place with the Health, Safety and Environment Department, during which we have repeatedly expressed our serious concerns and reservations regarding the replacement of Red Mk2A Auto-Level Packet (ALP) York Container Sleeves with these ‘bottomless’, White ‘Correx’ Plastic Sleeves in the ‘Manual Sorting Operation’ and we expressed the view that if Royal
Mail was to introduce them, then they should be used in the ‘Automation Operation’ only. Royal Mail Operational management rejected that idea and want to drive the ‘Correx’ sleeves in everywhere.

I refuse to pick packets out of them once it gets below a certain level whilst walk sorting. Doing that day after day for the rest of my career will ruin my back. This job is already bad for you without adding further stress on the body.

It’s my understanding RM bought 2 machines that make these plastic sleeves as a cost cutting measure.BigSacks wrote: ↑16 Oct 2023, 22:13I really hope you’re right.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑16 Oct 2023, 19:52There's more and more of them now with the doors either missing or damaged. I could be wrong and hope they are withdrawn, guy in my DO could have lost an eye in an accident with a faulty one.

Around half the yorks arriving at our DO now seem to have the sleeves, I wouldn't be surprised if we're not heading for 100% in the not too distant future. If we are producing them at RM I'd imagine they cost a fraction of the price of the red fabric sleeves.

Really feel for those guys having to rake through the bottom of these on the sorting. What good is a f***ing shovel when there are small packets damaged and stuck in the bottom of these Yorks??
I'm sure these will increase the amount of posties going on sick leave although thankfully the company has managed to agree with the Union sick absence reduction in the deal.

On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

They're going to get a good few getting the doors removed if we end up having to use them for all mech and manual letter and flats dispatches. It's hit and miss as to whether they trays fit in with the door folded back
