Given that we are all getting a big paycheck wouldn't it be a good idea to not do any overtime for a week or two to really show what is going on with staff shortages.

People couldn't use the excuse that they need to do O/T as they have just had the equivalent of over 2 weeks pay extra.
Pretty sure the courts would see a mass withdrawal of overtime as unofficial industrial action, although it's never going to happen anyway.

I thought overtime was voluntary , so it can’t be considered industrial action. RM probably wants withdraw if they could ,but I doubt they would, if people want to work overtime to earn extra money then I have nothing but respect for these people , just because I don’t want to doesn’t make them greedy.

OT is masking massing staff shortages in my office and now it is coming back to bite everyone on the behind. Rounds not getting covered, just being put as lapse now and another revision due. Soon there will be no OT, just too much work on each round.
I'm turning purple!

I stopped when I saw that I was basically working till stupid hours near office closing times yet gaffers were paying people the same amount of hours to clear half a walk when they were back at the office one hour earlier before their finish times. Pissed and moaned when I said no, but said I have a life plus kept leaving me with weeks worth of mail everytime I came back from leave. Yet, said people they give overtime to magically have their frames cleared whenever they come back from leave.

We have 4 or 5 people who come in early everyday to sort packets, large parcels and put mail and D2Ds out ready for when full time staff get there. If these people stopped coming in early it would destroy our office but alas all they see is the ££££££ and not the bigger picture. Makes me laugh how some of these people went on strike then bend over backwards to help the company out.
At this point, it doesn't even matter who comes in on overtimes in the morning and works over. The amount of offices that are screwed has to be ridiculous. So singling people out isn't exactly great nor do I blame them for coming in on overtime, especially with the cost of living and lossing money on the piss poor strike deal we have. Though do have a point on the heavy reliance on the people that do these things for the company. It's plagued the company for years and have done absolutely zero in terms of actually training other people to do iPS, mail sorting, etc. And, it'll eventually get to the point where this people will no longer be around. This company has the ridiculous amount of luck in dodging s**t that should have royally screwed then over, but as with most things you can only luck out so many times.

Our pay is piss poor and well below the national average, I really do not know how people who live in London with rent /house prices 3 x the price can keep their head above water.
If people wish to do or need overtime to pay their bills then fair play to them.

Maybe we should have gone on strike for better pay and conditions? :nana

Would you prefer they work less hours and claim benefits to top up their money to make ends meet? People can’t win can they? We have people moaning about their colleagues working too hard, then in the next post, not hard enough. The mind boggles.

I’m an overtime queen I will regularly double up sometimes 5 times a week

I’m going to fill my boots now coz come March (if that’s when the later start/finishes kick in) I won’t be able to do as much as it will clash with my other commitments

Then I’ll be forced to decide if I can still afford to work at Royal Mail, I hope I can coz I do still love the job but there’s no point working if you don’t have any time to enjoy life

I take it your out until 5/6pm daily on those doubles given everything seems to be SISO these days and ghosting a fortune has long gone? Assuming you do(quite a few at my DO seem happy to do doubles for an extra 3 hours :left: ) then you do well to have time outside of life currently.

siso at ours for a while, some still clocking out before usual time and getting 4/5hrs overtime, it won't ever stop when a screw is in a hole and needs some help to clear
