Stop doing overtime

Post by Strong bull »

Given that we are all getting a big paycheck wouldn't it be a good idea to not do any overtime for a week or two to really show what is going on with staff shortages.

People couldn't use the excuse that they need to do O/T as they have just had the equivalent of over 2 weeks pay extra.

Royal mail is/has always been run on overtime, people won't change I'm afraid. For me I stopped doing overtime when I realised how little extra I was actually getting.

It's a bit unfair To be calling them greedy. I'm older now & don't do O/T, but in my younger days with a growing family, I did loads.
The generation behind me are coming through now, they'll have their own families to raise and, especially with the current cost of living, will appreciate any opportunities to earn more.

Why is it considered greedy to work more hours than contracted and to be paid for it? They aren’t getting the money for nothing. What a bizarre attitude.

Well said , I use to do all my rest days years ago but now don’t need to so I would never criticise those that do it .

We have 4 or 5 people who come in early everyday to sort packets, large parcels and put mail and D2Ds out ready for when full time staff get there. If these people stopped coming in early it would destroy our office but alas all they see is the ££££££ and not the bigger picture. Makes me laugh how some of these people went on strike then bend over backwards to help the company out.

You can often be putting colleagues at risk by working too many hours leading to tiredness & workplace accidents.
We also don't know if these people are working second jobs or doing taxi driving on the side etc

Are they doing it for nothing or are they getting paid?

Those who criticise people for doing OT tend to fall in one of the following categories, live with parents, older workers who are now mortgage free and kids have left home, or have spouses with good jobs

I think RM will be aware of the scope of the problem as they can see the OT budget. They just don't care. If they don't care, I don't care.
