I am not sure why you all worry about what gets delivered and when, we are employed for a certain amount of hours and how the employer fills those hours are up to them, i hate saying it because i am agreeing with Lou but that's where we are.
The days where we had pride in our jobs and the service we provided are over, the government or ofcom don't care otherwise they would have them hauled over the coals, and that isn't happening.
Well maybe some of us find it slightly perturbing that we are supposed to deliver all the mail each day, yet this isnt happening. Birthday/anniversary cards and nhs letters can sit in frames for days or maybe go for a journey in the van then get brought back.

Tracked packets are prioritised to the point where basic 1st and 2nd class, including Recorded, can sit at the back of yorks for sometimes over a week or more . . . and this can include medical equipment, medications, birthday presents etc

Its not right.
:Applause :Applause :Applause :Applause That’s exactly my point. It’s not right and I am part of that due to doing what I’m told each day by my COM. Meanwhile RM deny it every single day in the media. All of us must accept we are part of this corruption served on to the general public.

Just turn up on time, do what is asked of you then go home and don’t give the job another thought. If you start worrying about every minutia of this job now, you will go mad with stress. As you say, it is beyond corrupt now and concerned with prioritising profit over performance and wellbeing of staff, so just look after yourself and ignore everything else. It is just a job.
Is that really a Unionist response ? Is that the response of an empowered worker?

How low do you go.?

It is my response to someone who is clearly struggling with their mental health and working life balance. They should be prioritising that over anything else. Certainly more than giving a toss about what mail is and isn’t getting delivered. It isn’t a unionist response, it is a human one. I’d never suggest anyone puts their own emotional well-being behind either this job or the union.

Having been a postie before and since privatisation believe me when i say i am with you 100% on the prioritising of parcels, but also believe me when i say to you that this company no longer care and neither me or you can effect a change.
The people who are given a wage to police this company don't care and the government don't care.
So what do we do, our voice is the union and they are now in bed alongside RM backing them up and trying to kill the USO.
So the only thing to do is the job that they pay us to do as instructed, anything else will get you in trouble.

I have the day off Saturday and when I looked at the duty rota all they are covering on my duty is parcels . So they are definitely not worried about letters . So 2 days of mail for me Monday. I will only work to my time so some letters could be 3 days late

That’s my attitude too.

Look, I get that it’s unfair on people waiting on appointments and other important letters. But it’s not my fault. I earn £18k and I’m just not paid enough, valued enough or respected enough to care. There’s nothing I can do regardless - I could disobey my manager and leave the tracked and take out the letters instead but that will land me with some trumped up wilful delay (or whatever the term is nowadays). I don’t have that much longer at RM and I’m not about to start a 1 man crusade. Likewise most people in my DO would sell their own gran for an extra hours pay so very few would stand with me.
The day is gonna come when we’re all gonna have to testify.

You are wrong to a certain degree, we do have pride in our jobs , however the way the organisation is run is the problem, we obviously want to do our best but find ourselves constrained by idiots who make stupid policy decisions , then by idiots who implement these stupid policies, idiots who have no idea what this job is about, they are the ones who have no pride, the management in this company are woeful, they wouldn’t get jobs as managers anywhere else.

Are you struggling with your reading? My advice to the OP was to prioritise his/her own mental health over worrying about what mail isn’t being delivered. That isn’t chipping away at anyone. Mentally challenged? What are you on about? Stop bringing personal baggage into every thread on this forum. Your obsession with me is touching, but you are letting it completely blind you to reading what is being posted.

Stop derailing threads with your nonsense please.

The reason I started this thread, I have a customer who has missed an important appointment and is now trying not to be put back on a long waiting list through no fault of there’s. Do I feel part responsible? Yes. I have followed instruction to prioritise tracked and parcels over mail. RM stipulate in the media this doesn’t happen. I joined RM on being honest and trustworthy. I’m not embarrassed to say I’m struggling mentally over this incident with my customer but surely I am not alone.
It’s only bits of paper we throw through doors but to some in our community it’s their health we are playing with wether they get there appointment or miss it.

I read something the other day that managers are actually hiding mail and telling their bosses it has gone out! What's the point of that? It just makes the undo-able, appear do-able!
"Just take it out and see how you go......."

I've returned loops including tracked a few times, nothing has been said. Last week we really struggled and one day brought 8 or 9 tracked items back, they went out with the afternoon packet people, again nothing was said :Very Happy
what time do you finish? we're still out on delivery working to our time when the afternoon packets are getting done

Maybe, but if the company no longer care then why are they spouting lies to the media that they are not prioritising parcels over letters?? The Select Committee earlier in the year revealed that the company were de-prioritising the letters over parcels and Royal Mail's excuse back then was that it was due to the pandemic, industrial action and high sick absences. It led to Simon Thompson's resignation but what excuses do Royal Mail have now?? Royal Mail need to show that the USO is financially unsustainable but if they expect to make record profits in the future, then they will still be accountable unfortunately.

And I would agree with the OP that we are complicit in failing letters over parcels. We might work as directed but it's not acceptable that management are taking bonuses by creative accounting, especially when they are penny pinching by saving hours by not getting duties covered. They are getting away with it now due to the alleged detrimental financial position, but they won't if they start making record profits.

Working at Royal Mail used to be stress free but when management make revisions and duties are completely unworkable and then expect posties to deliver days worth of mail plus all the Tracked items, well that creates a lot of stress in itself. The reality of what Royal Mail are doing with everything being underhand and private discussions and coercion being made to staff, its small wonder that the company are contributing to the mental health of staff who work there. That is not acceptable. What good is just trying to work your hours when you are having daily discussions with your boss about unrealistic workloads?

This is where the Union should step in. So I find it quite remarkable that the Union leaders who postponed the ballot to address realistic and achievable workloads was all a load of b*llocks and now Dave Ward is championing the 5 day USO! If you ever need proof that the Union leadership is only looking after its own ends. All a 5 day USO will do is further reduce jobs and put more pressure on us to do more work. The morale in our office is nearly at rock bottom
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

My point is we are all complicit in this corruption, that’s the bit that I don’t feel comfortable with. I definitely don’t go over or beyond for this company but I watch every single person in my unit including union rep prioritise parcels over mail every single day. Surly this lie needs addressed by someone.
How can we all be complicit in this corruption your paid for what your manager asks you deliver. Or whatever they prioritise in the mc not my problem just do as asked.
