80k didn't vote for it - they voted on it - only 54k voted for it - 80k either didn't vote or voted against - that doesn't mean a toss reallyjohnston65 wrote: But that doesnt take away the fact that over 80,000 members voted for this deal while, as far as we know,40,000 coudln't be bothered putting pen to paper. Yes both of them should be criticised for the way they handled the dispute and both should be made to answer a lot of questions maybe resulting in a vote of no confidence.
But that doesnt take away the fact that over 80,000 members voted for this deal while, as far as we know,40,000 coudln't be bothered putting pen to paper. This is more shamefull for me than anything.
But if people think leaving the CWU will hit Hayes and Ward then think again. The best way to hit them is by staying in and pushing for change if that is what the majority decides.
By more postal staff becoming non-unionised we play more into the hands of Leighton and Crozier than anything else. Because as I've already said the deal ,wether you think is good or bad, is still a deal and it is more than what could be achieved in a business that has more staff not in a union than those that have.Agree 100% your point 40,000 not voting
Time will judge Dave and Billy on the deal if things are gonna be as bad as people on here predict when elections come up, then they will pay the price, along with the PEC

Re: resignation from the cwu
The other two sites were bragging about it if I remember rightly . I did a few strikes in another industry , HQ got lambasted for selling out but we NEVER went for local agreements as they'd plans for local pay for areas of high & low unemployment ,senior managers buying up subsidized/ free travel etc .Paul wrote:Wonder how meny members did actually resign from the cwu as a result of the yes vote! to be honest I dont think there would be a lot, more of a knee jerk reaction i would thinkbathboy wrote:how many members will resign from the cwu as a result of the yes vote...
1 The CWU simply aren't organized for doing local & regional agreements , they are too over centralized and top heavy , RM know this and the CWU were not organized in the regions for the 2003 ballot .
2 I agree with Debuk55 over non-voting , In Australia you are fined if you don't vote , if you want to make a gesture vote for a silly candidate or deliberately spoil your paper or something . Then there is these banana republics and totalitarian regimes where you have to vote for someone or aren't allowed to .
