I believe in the long term it'll also be expanded to packets and flats (machine sorted ones) and I think will eventually cover all 2C.

A new thing we've got in MCs is 2C extract. Some MCs will dispatch 1C and 2C mech together, even though they shouldn't. The 2C extract will extract that 2C and hold it over for delivery on the day that it's supposed to be delivered. It has resulted in wave 2 batch sizes shrinking big time. Think it's only a mater of time before we just send wave 2 as manual

Is wave 2 supposed to be sequenced? Ours never has been?

The work plan for a couple of years now is for wave 2 to be walk sorted.

How come it doesn't get sequenced? Is it a lack of time? Does sequencing take up more time than walk sorting?

Sequencing takes more time than walk sorting, as the mail has to pass through the machine 3 times when sequencing compared with once for walk sort. The wave 2 batches are so small now that they're certainly not worth sequencing and a few times now they've been border line for whether they've even been worth walk sorting.

RM want to maximise the amount of mech going on wave 1. I think that a single wave will happen at some point with any "wave 2" stuff being sent as manual. They can't roll it over to the next day as they've no way of knowing if any items have an RFID tag in them.

Our second tray has about 7 letters in it nowadays. They talk about cost saving, environment ect ect but there's yorks full of trays, each tray with about 7 letters in it. Surely it'd be better to just chuck it in with the manual sort?

Looking at the latest USO stats then I doubt anybody in senior management still worries about RFOD tags!
