Re: USO...lies.
If the business goes against the regulator by scrapping the USO without consent then I'm sure a hefty fine will be heading there way.
The business wouldn't be in this mess if Simon & co actually got the talks over and done with within a month. Stubbornness and egos got in the way from both sides during the dispute and caused a lot of damage financially. It looks like many businesses that used to send mail have lost faith in the system and have found alternative means (e.g, email). The damage was done last year so all we are going to hear from now on is mail is down so we can no longer sustain the universal service.
There is talks and trials that they want to reduce the amount of mail we take out with us. It might mean taking out first and second mail and leaving the low priority mail, basically junk till the next day or over the course of a week. As discussed in the parliament at the beginning of this year that Simon did say parcels don't take priority over mail and everything is equal. We all know this not to be true and the business is moving the goalposts on a daily basis which is crippling the customers and the workers.

A fine is heading their way anyway for failing targets, is it not? theyve been fined before. Nobody is getting sacked or thrown in prison

I don't understand the comments regarding all the yes voters, do the so called no voters think a different scenario would be playing out right now the company is in dire straights all of their own making of course that is not going to change we are on a very slippery slope competing with the gigg economy thats not going to change, in my own opinion terms and conditions will be eroded away bit by bit the only thing the union can try to do is slow the process down when it gets to much for individuals we all have a choice mine will be to leave.

I voted no, but as we live in a democratic society, I didn't have a problem with people voting yes...

Re: USO...lies.
Darren Jones (mp) mentioned that royal mail will be under investigation over the next six months to conclude it's findings that if the business is breaching the USO then there will be consequences.dazzler123 wrote: ↑16 Aug 2023, 17:31A fine is heading their way anyway for failing targets, is it not? theyve been fined before. Ofcom are probably at the end of there investigation and will dish them a fine regardless of how small or severe the failings have been. This is something the business will take on the chin as the fine will be small in comparison if they complied to delivering the mail 6 days a week.
Simon did lie under oath and should of been sentenced, or fined but instead got a golden handshake with millions in his back pocket.

Re: USO...lies.
Yet again more doom and gloom, or if you look at it positively a chance to work less weekends and for some of us to maybe get a pay off and retire.
We all know the future for RM is going to be nothing like the past, no point in harking back to the halcyon days of job and finish, 1st and 2nd delivery and adhering to the USO.
All these things are gone never to return and no matter who's in power they won't allow anything to change in favour of posties.
I was thinking it's probably only a matter of time before you will not be known as posties anymore under pain of death and will just be known as a delivery person or just No 278421.
Union won't exist and some company appointed committee will make any calls on pay and workload with every toady getting a place on said committee and the walks will be enormous.
George Orwell knew what was coming.

I fear you are correct, but at the same time accepting what you say seems like giving up on what was a good service and pretty decent place to work, ah well mebe time to give up caring.......scotchy1962 wrote: ↑16 Aug 2023, 18:56Yet again more doom and gloom, or if you look at it positively a chance to work less weekends and for some of us to maybe get a pay off and retire.

The corrupt government running the country, would not want to be associated with the demise of Royal Mail. Whether it is true or not, if RM turn around and say that they only way to save the company, is by ditching the USO, I think they will agree to it.

With the small volumes of mail we put through the CSSs on wave 2, I think it's only a matter of time before any wave 2 stuff just gets rolled over into the next days wave 1. We get the odd time now where a wave 2 batch will have less than 100 items in it

Re: USO...lies.
Has this message been said generally across RM DO's or is this one maverick union rep making it all up? If RM do intend scrapping the USO could the Government withdraw it from RM and find another supplier, should one be prepared to take it on?daveyeff wrote: ↑16 Aug 2023, 10:53Well, the union got us downstairs this morning, rep says..."dont shoot the messanger" its to update us on the rumours circulating on social media....the RM board are in serious talks with our leaders at this very time...RM say that come October they are scrapping the USO regardless of what the government/parliament says because if it does not happen they will RUN OUT OF MONEY by then...there is no option...no other alternative...it HAS to happen...all days off and Sunday working will cease until its all confirmed. ....it wasnt the reps fault he was telling us what he had been told to tell us....as usual it got the response it desrved....total crap....but it shows they are just going to do what they want anyway.....the regulator ofcom are toothless.
If there is any truth in the rumours perhaps that explains why RM have been so reluctant to replace leavers, particularly FT'ers, I'm fairly certain in my DO there wouldn't be any need for redundancies if we moved to Mon-Fri deliveries as we're around 10 to 20% under staffed already.
