"If the cause of your absence is likely to be covered by the Equality Act, the first two occasions of absence linked to this particular health condition will not normally be ‘counted’ however, this will depend on your absence history."

Love how RM always think they're above the law. Alot of disability discrimination claims to come later I guess.
Even I think thats a bit low.

This has been the case for years now. People with cancer being conduct coded. It has nothing to do with this agreement.

Re; Attendace + Other Leave

Are there similar changes regarding 'other leave' such as bereavement leave and unpaid leave for carers & etc that anyone knows about?

Hidden in the details?

Does sour 12 days or 3 absences include this or is it just sick leave that has changed?

For any info, thanks in advance.

My stage 1 was due to clear in September. Now Royal Mail has added a further six months due to the changes. I don’t mind the twelve months stages. That’s what we had when I first joined Royal Mail. My argument is that when you sign for a stage you have entered into a contract with Royal Mail. That you agree with the stage and also the system. Which was six months when I signed for the stage. Royal Mail extending everyone’s stages is basically breaking the contract. The union have basically said nothing to do with us, we can’t help

To be fair they are trying to agree changes with the RM, however, they probably know their hands are tied as if they call for IA as a last resort the majority of staff won't back the call.

It's been said before but the Union desperately need to invest in a decent legal team to ensure that they can go through agreements with a fine toothed comb. The Union was that desperate to reach any sort of a deal it completely overlooked dotting the I's and crossing the T's. And it would also help to ensure that any future industrial action is legally watertight as well....

The extension of stages after August 1 is a dog move of that there is no doubt.
Bigger concern for me is the way it has happened
Paragraph 6.4 in the agreement clearly states that this would be dealt with through a JWG.
First cwu knew of it was when it went live on workplace.
If this is RM idea of the union being in the room when these decisions are made (in the bloody agreement where this is concerned) then at a national level they are dead in the water.
Still got till the end of the week or Monday before it goes live so maybe they come out with something.
As a blue shirt your health is now priority number 1 sign in sign out in-between bare minimum whatever that is now or in the future.
Big weekend

If you have had 3 absences but not on a stage under the old rules, when the new rules kick in on 1st August do you get put on a stage 1? You will have had 3 absences in a 12 month period?

This has been the case for at least two disputes now. Royal Mail have played the legal system far more effectively.

I am guessing if you went sick say back in June before this shoddy agreement and you went sick say 2nd August you wouldn't get any sick pay and would get zilch, nada.

Sick pay is a tricky one to get right for our company. Our sick policy has always been very generous with 6 months full pay, 6 months half pay but sick absences the business says is costing them £250 million a year. The issue is that there will always be those who see sick pay as another contractual benefit added on to their annual leave allowance. But instead of the company adequately dealing with them they instead seem to be tarring us all with the same brush.

Our job is a physical one and we spend even more time outdoors in all weathers. Staff could have really bad symptoms of covid (remember when staff were off for covid during the pandemic and didn't get a stage warning) and then might have to take an absence later in the year for something else. What will likely happen is that people will be forced to come in and work even if they are clearly unwell. I suppose a company paid health insurance scheme would help a lot of the more genuine people if they were seriously ill so that they wouldn't lose their wages, but that's something maybe the company could look into.
