Holidays while sick
Hi to everybody. I am hoping someone can help me out with this query. I am currently off on long term sickness and probably wont be back to work until late April/early May. I have had a weeks leave in Feb which is during my sick absence and i have a week in April which will also be the same. My question is do i get these weeks back?

Sorry but I wouldn't think so could be wrong . One local RMAP we had, was that you're holiday if you went away ; had to be approved by RM's "experts " as being part of your rehabilitation /treatment .
" We wouldn't want to see you on conduct code for unauthorized absence " was on the letter countersigned by the Area Rep .
On reflection the place was supposed to have one of the worst absence records in the country , supposedly on a par with London depots on C4's Despatches so RM sent a troubleshooting Messiah Manager in , one of big Al's love children; as RM do .

This came up recently with a member in my office the DOM did not believe he would have to credit the leave I argued this, he phoned HR whilst I was present who confirmed if you are sick before the leave starts and you have not contacted to say you are well enough to return to work then you will remain on sick and have the leave credited, also if you are on leave and phone work to say you are sick they should cancel your leave from the date you give and then put you as sick and also credit you leave, but this rarely happens as people do no twant to trigger any stages.

I must admit that I've been ill on the fortnight's leave for a week about four times but as elektra 3050 says; I didn't want any trouble with stages or the hassle /aggravation of interviews as they can play on people's minds or people simply don't fancy them .
Might as well be hung for a sheep as well as a lamb if it's unavoidable with RM !

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Can guarantee you can reclaim AL. Never done it myself but many of my friends/colleagues have done this - even agains hostile management. In many cases I have witnessed people long term sick claiming any extra 4 weeks the following year. Not actually claiming, mind, it is automatically credited so don't worry about disputes with your managers.

You can only normally be allowed to carry 5 days/a week over as a rule.
Down our way when it gets tight they used to allocate you what was left and force you to take it.
But our DOM doesn't seem to be keeping an eye on it and i'll probably carry over more.
