Think the problem is that management can't even identify (can't be arsed) who is "effective" at the job and who is not. There's posties in my offices that struggle to do the rounds cuz of age and some that are clearly taking the piss. There's few guys here that just takes parcels and was caught on multiple occasions sat in the van doing nothing and some posties will just flat out refuse to work with them because they don't want to be carrying them around (and rightfully so). In them instances, management should like any other company should bring their asses in and tell them if you don't smarten up then you are gone, simple as that. Why they keep them around I don't know. Must be scraping at the bottom of the barrel if they are willing to keep them around.
However, the case of what is a good employer I'd say is just doing the job as designed and just going at a standard pace honestly. We've already seen the results of rushing around like an idiot to go home an hour early gets you. And truth be told, running around, door stepping isn't being an effective employer. Pretty much is taking shortcuts and not exactly something that is to be respected. Especially if you are willing to dump s**t that people have paid money for so it can be damaged or stolen. Take your breaks, post your s**t in your time then f**k off home. Ain't your problem if walk isn't achievable so don't bother coming in early to try to complete it neither.
Overall, I'd say had the company and the union approached us first on ideas on shift patterns probably wouldn't be anywhere near as bad as this s**t storm ahead. Personally wouldn't have minded if started later since was one of the guys during COVID that did just that since had half people do mornings and afternoons. But, know everyone is different which is more of a reason why they should have worked with us.....as a TEAM instead of lumping everyone together and saying, "well if you don't like it then tough s**t".

Good post
Totally agree on the shift patterns but Royal Mail seem determined to try and fit a rather large square peg into a very small round hole by forcing everyone to start and finish later. A one-fits-all approach is unlikely to be compatible with all staff and sadly they have left it up them to try and sort out with their CONs.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

Shouldn't have corrected that. I preferred the other name
