Probably half of that amount were about to retire. I know a few in my office that kept on hanging on until an agreement happened so as they could get there lump sum and back dated pay but it was never to be.

This isn't scientifically rigorous, but I only mention it because the numbers are too plausible:

Since our seniority list was put up on the board in January 2022 we've lost 16 of 106 names (15%). It's variously attributed on here that either the entire workforce or the union membership is (or was) 110,000. 15% of that figure is 16,500. I want to believe.

March? Wait until before Xmas pressure starts, it will be carnage. if i were considering leaving not a chance i would be doing another Xmas here
