A POSTMASTER escaped arrest after police found imitation firearms for sale in the shop.
Officers from the Specialist Firearms Department and Bromley Police swooped on the Post Office in Poundstretcher in Penge High Street after residents complained that imitation weapons were being sold over the counter.
Police confiscated 16 imitation firearms - six air pistols, nine air rifles and one open air plastic machine gun - on the top shelf of the shop. Despite being warned by police that he risked prosecution under the Violent Crime Reduction Act 2006, the postmaster escaped action last month as he agreed to the weapons being seized and destroyed Sergeant Rob Goodwin, Head of the Penge and Cator Safer Neighbourhood Team said: "We will continue target businesses who think that they can flout the law in this way."
