A Surbiton postie has admitted threatening his football supporting neighbours with a baseball bat after becoming enraged by their cheering.

Brian Maskell also used foul language to describe Tottenham Football Club while his neighbours tuned into the Carling Cup final.

Kingston magistrates were told the 40-year-old became irate after hearing noisy celebrations during the match on February 24.

He threw a can of larger at neighbour Kerry Stevens and was heard shouting: "I'll do it to you, I'll do time for you".

Defence solicitor Lorna West said Maskell, from School Lane, was trying to enjoy his day off in peace and the football teams involved "were not an issue for him, it was just the noise involved".

She added Kerry Stevens had often hosted large parities which had become a bone of contention with the dad-of-two.

Magistrate Richard Turfitt said Maskell was likely to be given a community punishment after a full probation report is heard tomorrow.

He was ordered not to contact neighbours Kerry Stevens and Daniel Allen in the meantime.

Is this a 'law' that only applies to Spurs or teams in cup finals? Fair enough do him for the bat incident, but this is nonsense!
