All agency staff bumped for next week

Post by jimmynailsalive »

We have a smallish office using between 5-7 agency staff including myself as I like the flexibility compared to when I was employed by RM. Think about a third of the duties failed yesterday and now HO have said no more agency staff from Monday although staff offered jobs if they wanted it and doubt anyone does.

Is that normal round the country that agency staff have no inclination to take jobs and without agency are other offices going to be carnage next week?

Not aware of any agency being offered jobs at our place.

Well unless they were really desperate for permanent employment, then they’d be taking a drop in wages as they get paid a higher hourly rate than the rest of us.

Whilst they gain some conditions they lose any flexibility with it.
So you can see why they’re not seizing the offer.

Well they either want the job or they don't up to them.

Have heard this. Can see a few taking the offer whilst looking for other work then leaving.

Not everything is as black and white as you see it, try talking to some of the agency staff and get a perspective other than from the inside.

Perhaps now the dispute has finally come to end an end RM are actually going to start recruiting their own staff rather than relying so much on agency staff?

Advertised jobs have now jumped from the recent 60/70 to over 150 posting & sorting roles:

Wow our place is on, obviously the new contract rates, it's advertising 30 hours and it clearly says on the advert overtime will be paid at 1.25% normal rate so someone applying would assume that to be the case after 30 hours, it doesn't mention based on exceeding 40 hours or whatever the new contracts are based on before ot kicks in so I think that's misleading, maybe it's covered when you get further into the process.

Had it on Friday, agency guys were called on delivery saying not needed anymore. Mail brought back halfway through the walk, seemed ridiculous timing

Nationally managers have been told to cut 60% of agency in delivery. We are a DPR office and we used between 10-15 a day across the letters and parcel side. The large have been put back on to the shared van rounds next week and the manager has said parcels must be delivered at the expense of loops. it's going to be utter carnage.
