Royal Mail: personal observations and thoughts

Post by Subman »

In the interest of balance.

Royal Mail had been developing plans for change for a significant period prior to the pay claim last year.

Royal Mail took the decision not to involve the CWU in these plans for change because at the heart of their plans for change was their aim to destroy the CWU as an effective representative body .

Royal Mail believed workers were too well paid and the changes to be introduced required that the CWU represented workers terms and conditions had to be reduced.

Royal Mail saw the cost of living crisis as the opportune time to introduce changes , as workers would be weaker.

Royal Mail deliberately gave away millions of pounds in extra dividends and buy back of shares rather than using some of this money to cushion the negative impact of change on workers.
The new mantra ' Our business to Run' could now be used to provide cover for managers and justify some very questionable actions.

Royal Mail promotes a service, advertises a service but fails to provide the service. In the short it is getting away with this but in the longer term it will not.
How can any worker have pride or respect for the business or it's management when it sees this behaviour going on.

Royal Mail changes to sick pay and attendance standards will very likely reduce the number of single day absences but will almost inevitably lead to longer absences and higher costs associated with sick absence.

Seasonal variation of 24 minutes in the ' busy' season will be eaten up with seasonal weather and darker days in this period. The goodwill has largely gone , the busy period will come and go , Christmas will come and go and letters will stay in the frames.

More delivery points are added on to existing duties but less and less letters gets delivered, I have never known so many duties to fail and so much mail to fail in the summer season. A cycle of decline.

Jesus Christ

So the No Voters have now changed their target from agitating for a mutually destructive No Vote
to slating Royal Mail and suggesting some prior, devious and underhand conspiracy by the company against their own workforce.

At no time, in any of my posts have I suggested members should vote yes or no, and I definitely did not state how I personally would vote or if I even was going to vote.

The core elements of my post are factual.

Royal Mail had clearly developed plans for the dispute.

Royal Mail did not involve the CWU in its plans for change.

Royal Mail did give out special dividends and bought back shares.

Royal Mail is not delivering the service it should.

The post was really an attempt to balance an earlier post ( CWU: personal observations/thoughts) were I attempted to identify mistakes / failures of the CWU.
