The odds were always against us

Post by anini »

The Tories have made sure shareholder profit is never challenged. That is the bottom line. We all knew this was coming since privatisation. They've given us a grace period until the dpr network is up and running and they will restart where they left off.
Could the CWU have done things differently?
Yes... In hindsight yes, but ultimately we are swimming against the tide.
Show me any privatised industry that had its T&C protected after privatisation.
Show me any privatised industry that has had better renumeration after privatisation.
Only essential industries have had decent pay deals but that will now change due to the minimum service requirements.
YOU NEED POLITICAL POWER TO STAND A CHANCE
Blame the 14 million people who voted Tory at the last election. There are a lot of people on this site that voted against their own financial interest in 2017 and 2019.
If Labour had won we would have had a re-nationalised RM and been in a much better position. But yeah, at least we got hard Brexit done :Applause.
The CWU did their best given the circumstances. Did you really expect them burn the house down.
We collectively lost on the political arena and there is no denying it.
Get over it. The Tories are :funneh at you ( especially if you voted for them ).
The ones that cheese me off the most are those who moan and moan about the CWU from afar but never put themselves forward for the many positions that are vacant. The union is what you make it.
Now we will get Starmer who is a New Labour/Tory lite. We ain't getting any help from him.
If you want things to change then it will have to be from bottom up. We had one chance of fighting back against Thatcherism but the establishment have ensured that will never happen again. I didn't agree with a lot of what Corbyn said but for workers it was definitely a step in the right direction. You reap what you sow.
We're reaping the rewards of Thatcherism. Enjoy it if you know how to play the game. We all knew this day was going to come. We're lucky the CWU put up a good fight for 10 years.

Not sure why you are blaming the Tories for this do you think it would have been any different under a Labour government?

We knew the writing was on the wall when the company was sold off something labour touted before they were kicked out.

Looking at the example of former public companies like BT and BA plus the on going railway dispute we all knew deep down what was going to happen.

The Tories are privatisation on steroids. They privatised RM together with the Libdems. Labour promised to renationalize RM in 2017, 2019
The labour policy has now changed.
CWU fought a good fight. Held on for 10 years. You can't do a Leicester every season.
They take away as many T&C which make financial sense.

You can speculate now after the fact but renationalisation was in their manifesto. We are now seeing the results of privatisation and the CWU have the odds stacked against them. If we didn't lose this time then we would have lost next time.

On the one hand, you have Jeremy Corbyn (Labour leader) saying he *would* have. On the other hand you have emu (random internet person) telling me they wouldn’t. Who to believe?

Brown and Mendel son started it for the tories not to mention the grand theft of everybody’s pensions
They opened up the competition rules and dsa
Not the tories

Can't wait until Labour win the next election, so the dimwits will finally realise that there is zero difference between the two Parties.
Manifestos will be ignored as usual.
We live in a one Party state.

We definitely agree on that. However, a Corbyn government would have been vastly different to either of the two main parties currently.
