You don't know that Ward's been bought off, whoever is behind this agenda is capable of very nasty tactics and I expect the threats are absolutely brutal.

Collectively it's easy to dismiss and stare down the threats, fear and bully tactics, if they're using them one-on-one it's sometimes impossible. We don't know what they've threatened him with.

I still think he's a good guy, but he's not made of hard enough stuff for taking these feckers on.

Scaring people into compliance is twisted and we need a union leader who it enrages, not one that it makes submit.

FWIW, I like working Saturdays, so thanks but no thanks, I want to keep my bloody free time in the afternoons.

Is there really genuinely any point in continuing to pay union subs, the union seems to have given Royal Fail carte blanche to whatever they want. I lost 2 weeks pay and 6 months of overtime, now I see Ward bending over backwards for them. RM new sick policy goes live 1st August, the ballot isn't even closed yet
Is that true about the sick policy? From August what happens? I'm not well but am still working. If I call in sick before August can I self cert for 7 days and get paid as usual?

From August you only get paid statutory sick pay for the first few days of any sick periods off AFTER your first period of sick within an annual period.

You will get paid in full now for any sick. But will they count that as your first period going into August - yet to see an answer to that question

Thanks. Late finishes means I can't do the school run so the job will be over for me. Might as well be off for the rest of July. Look for a better job and still get paid.

Yeah they seem few and far between unfortunately. Unless you want to work nights in a factory, but then again that ruins your work/life balance too.

The jobs are out there but the pay is rubbish. For example being a teaching assistant is only school hours and you get all the holidays off but it’s only £17k a year.

He's a sellout because he wants to start a debate that should have happened at least five years ago?

The USO is no longer fit for purpose and is no longer protecting jobs it is putting them at risk and forcing us further and further down the part-time resourcing model.

There just aren't enough letters to sustain a six day letter USO and if the union is guilty of anything it's of not facing that reality years ago.

Changes to the USO especially the designation of 1st class mail could open up the possibility of a reversal of the current trend towards later starts but the CWU is a sellout for even opening up a debate about that?

I said from the start if they made the majority of delivery staff Monday to Friday then change would have been much more palatable. A six day letter service isn’t needed in the current day I would imagine many rotating day off duties are not been covered on days off going Monday to Friday would probably solve that. You also open a market for a weekend delivery jobs which might be attractive to people who can’t work in the week.

Pretty much this.

The uso does need changing and if it was done correctly there’d be no need for later starts on delivery because dpr’s could be built in offices to accommodate those later parcels and could fit enough employees that want those hours.

I would say the the uso is still needed and shouldn’t be discarded.

Baffles me how the union never used this to bargain in negotiations.

Although the government have said no , it’ll be tough to say no if Royal Mail , the union and the workers are all saying it needs to change.

At the present time the USO is been used a political football a reduction with union backing would probably sway things especially as we will probably have a Labour government within the next 18 months.

Some won’t agree but it seems the union are taking a more pragmatic approach to things than a militant one. I did see where they were coming from though before delivering the letters with parcels made the most sense but now letter traffic is at an all time low separating parcels and letters makes more sense.
