even tho he has done wrong with mail being taken home, the car thing needs to be looked into as its very wrong and what made the manger do it in the first place!! That would be my issue, regardless of even tho he found mail.

The manager cannot force entry to the car but if they asked and permission was given (or implied) then he's got not leg to stand on.

He s agitated by the fact that he didn't know what do do at the time. Thats whats annoying him more. He didn't know if they were in the right to carry out the search or not. He says he never gave permission but never stopped it either. It was a case of,

M manager P Postie

M Where's your bag?

P I'm not in for work yet, its in the car anyhow.

M We are doing bag searches, take it in with you when you start.

P Ok

After 5 mins postie goes to leave

M Where you going now?

P I've got a few things to do, I've just been allowed permission to start later as I'm going to a funeral this morning

M Ok. Well i'll come and check your bag now.

Leaves depot and searches bag in car.

The exact same thing happened in another office a while ago but I can't find the thread but I don't think the manager has overstepped their authority.

I'm going to go and see if I can find the thread and let you have a look at it.

Same guy, same depot. This is his meeting with DOM tomorrow. All he has left is the "never been trained" card. He was thrown in at the dep end of Xmas 06 and never received any training.

again stay strong, dont give in. let us know on here what happens. He should not get the sack but may get a suspended sentence, its like jail !!Good luck.

I dont know bout other offices but mine closes at 1 and our contracted hours are til 2 on a saturday or not! i had a word with my manager, about what if the offices is shut and we have to come bak here before we go home? his words take the packets home with you, and then post the mail, and shuf the bike around the back, now on a saturday is royal mail wanted to change the start times later, why on a saturday doesnt the office shut til when our finish time, and just cut off if your goin over!

We are a 15.30 finish at our place and the p.h.gs are there to lock up,if there not our Dom is there most days,that includes Saturdays.I must say our Dom works alot of hours over his time,without pay

You should have the ability to pouch off, ask your manager about it and if he insists on you taking mail/packets home with you then get it in writing (managers cover their own arses very well)

I am very surprise that any postman/woman lets a manager check their car, the car is their personal property, if this was a RM van or car I could understand. The manager should wait until this person had stepped foot inside the building and then check his/her bag.
