If as it seems Branches and Rep/Activists/Members really have had their fill of Mr Hayes then they could do worse than support the following motion which is due to be discussed and voted on at the General Meeting of the N.I. No1 Branch today.

Motion to Annual Conference

This Conference condemns in the strongest possible terms the decision taken by the NEC at the behest of the General Secretary, to suspend the N.I. No1 Branch Officers and Official as being both undemocratic and not in the best interests of the members of the Branch.

Further it is believed that the decision to suspend the Branch may have been taken on the basis of erroneous information provided by the General Secretary. The suspended Officers and Officials of the N.I.No1 Branch were not furnished with explanations for their suspension nor were they provided with an opportunity to appeal their suspension.

The continued suspension has therefore cast a cloud of suspicion over the integrity and suitableness of those suspended Branch Officers and Officials to hold office in the future. There are also deep concerns over equality of treatment as it is fact that at least one Branch Officer was not indeed bound by the suspension and was allowed to exercise unfettered control over Branch matters including finances whilst refusing to co-operate with other suspended colleagues.

This Conference also deplores the failure of the General Secretary to enact investigations/inquiries into paramilitary threats against a former Branch Official as well as scurrilous rumours and literature which were spread concerning another Former Branch Secretary. This is in spite of commitments and assurances given by the General Secretary to both members and the wider membership of the N.I. No1 Branch.

This Conference Instructs the Union’s President to initiate an inquiry independent of the General Secretary to look into all aspects of the Branch’s suspension and possible infringements of the union’s rules with a view to bringing any guilty parties before the Union’s National Discipline Committee.

What a lot of utter b*ll0x. Unions were accused of economic illiteracy way back in the 1970's and its still happening now. Hayes and Ward are sensible realists who want to save the business in a world of expanding Capitalism.
That might not be to your liking but thats the the way it is.

and L & C are sensible realists along with Gordon Brown yeah right :funneh :funneh , let's see Northern Wreck , Railway Franchises , IT cock ups , Metronet , PPP , PFI , NHS , The Dome , rush towards Liberalization , tax payer taken for a ride there , very economically literate .

I'll accept there's a right wing free-market influence with the EEC , but that's been made worse with surrending sovereignty to Brussels .

Hayes and Ward must go because they mislead us into accepting a deal. Now either they are really dumb negiatators or they've been bought off. Please which one???

Who wants to carry on working till 65 or 68 carrying 10 santa clause sacks a day. And lose a part of your pension. Not many.
All what they achieved is that more people will be employed part-time. An exodus of full-time people has started already.

Good old Hayes and Ward.****wits :cuppa

just a dig at the supposedly economically illiterate past union leaders and the people that are supposed to be economically literate and the likes of L&C that are only too fond of giving out economics lectures to the CWU and the sort of people that have hired L&C to do their dirty work .
