Was told trials were run somewhere, where we check in on old and vulnerable people and ask them a series of questions (5 I believe) to make sure they are ok. It helps to reduce the burden on the state to provide proper social care for those that might need it. A ridiculous idea imo.
There is no way I would trust myself to do this and my god
there is no way some of the guys in my office should ever be let loose on the general public beyond handing over a parcel or putting a bit of paper through their door. Dave Ward is a full scale lunatic.

They suggested reading meters and delivering newspapers in years gone by. Perhaps on these increasingly hot summers ice creams as well? Stop Me and Buy One!

During the pandemic we delivered covid kits and I assume Dave Ward probably meant for us to be delivering medicines and medical equipment to the door.

But maybe we could also nip to Mrs Goggins village shop and deliver the milk and the morning papers as well?
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

So you go to an old dear house to check on her but she's out so you leave a card and have to try the next day
I can see the inevitable news story now - Doris found dead in her own home alongside a pile of red cards!

I don’t see the problem. Given the decline in mail, it would seem a good idea to diversify. I welcome any endeavour that provides more security for my employment going forward.

We're currently paid to deliver mail/parcels, if we're going to be used to do a care support check
who is going to pay for our time to do this?

RM won't want us doing this out of for nothing so who is going to pay for RM's/our time? The
local authority, NHS or the rellies of those who want their old folks checking up on?

IIRC before it was supposed to be five or so questions that we would ask off the PDA, tick or no tick
and that would be it. I know my Mum would say 'You've got me to come to the door and it's freezing cold,
I'm letting all the heat out to ask me five pointless questions and now what?'

None of this makes money for RM....selling stuff will though. We'll probably have to promote our D2D's and other marketing partners to generate sales on the doorstep. Double Glazing, life insurance, broadband etc...every knock-on will be an opportunity. We'll have leader boards back at the office to keep us competitive against ourselves.

All RM need to do is bung a few quid to some trendy young influencers to promote/ enthuse about physical letters the way some do for vinyl records, cassettes and even VHS.
Then run ad campaigns like the current Abel & Cole (I think) "inconvenience store" ads.... "My parcel took 2 days to arrive. But it wasn't left on my doorstep in the rain" "my delivery took longer. But it had the lowest carbon footprint of any courier" "I missed my parcel. But I easily rearranged a delivery to my friendly local post office."
Sell and promote the job we do, instead of trying to change us into something else

It has been muted we wear adverts as we walk around, tabards that we change weekly, perhaps to coincide with the current d2d.

Our Vans also carrying advertising like the buses.

The current advert being part of our van checks.

Looks like the CWU has reverted to that old tried, and tested, tactic, bullshit baffles brains.

2024 is shaping up to become quite a year for postal workers, and not a good one, either.

What with a management structure that regards its employees as being little more than s**t on their shoes, and a toothless union, gaining nothing for its members, but handing over more of our terms and conditions on demand, this is definitely not a good time to be a postman.

Yeah not sure they thought this through, someone must’ve thought it a great idea to make the leaflet appear more appealing to vote yes, but he would want there role expanded when ppl are complaining the work loads are too much now, doesn’t make sense!

Seeing as RM want to save the planet, maybe we should snap up cardboard and cans to get £ from recycling - think Wardy and co are lunatics suggesting stuff, we already do our bit in the community meeting/talking to people - then get a pda rollocking !

I don’t see it as any different to delivering D2Ds. That isn’t mail either, but it is an income stream, that I can perform during my paid hours, and earn money for the company that pays me. It is literally paying my wages, yet people still moan about doing them. I’ll clean the s**t-house toilets if it is in my duty time. I couldn’t care less.
