Phase 2 - Enabling local flexibility
In order to become a competitive and responsive business, while upholding high standards of employment, Royal Mail needs to be able to use its resources effectively, efficiently and to adapt at pace. All offices will jointly draw up an agreed plan to be implemented by the end of January 2008 to enable local flexibility.
Objectives
The plan will meet the following agreed objectives:
• To provide the best possible customer service.
• To continue to offer reasonable local earnings levels.

In my DO our rep was given a letter telling him that OT was to be removed when the flexible working comes in. We where sold down the river by the union leadership by them agreeing to let individual offices work out the details which means (in my office anyway) that we do as the DOM wants or he introduces it anyway by EA.johnnypick wrote:disgruntledpostie1 thats not true frienddisgruntledpostie1 wrote:Whenever the flexibility kicks in there will be no OTpostmanpat wrote:wot happens if I want to earn a little extra cash.

Can't see any mention of guaranteed overtime , and who gets to define "reasonable local earnings"?johnnypick wrote:disgruntledpostie1 thats not true frienddisgruntledpostie1 wrote:Whenever the flexibility kicks in there will be no OTpostmanpat wrote:wot happens if I want to earn a little extra cash.

I've been through this before so here we go again: Several weeks ago our rep (along with several others) were taken to see the AGM and he told them in no uncertain terms that if they didn't agree to the proposals the DOM's wanted to implement then they were going to be implemented by EA. Of course having a suspended branch means we seem to get bulldozed by bullying managers. I think you need to look at yourself and what people such as yourself have agreed tojohnnypick wrote:Your Dom is trying it on frienddisgruntledpostie1 wrote:In my DO our rep was given a letter telling him that OT was to be removed when the flexible working comes in. Changes will happen but safeguards are all through that agreement to protect everybody. If your rep looks a bit weak then get on to your area rep or if need divisional level and get them on the case.Your rep should put in a stage 1 disagreement and go through the I/R framwork, your dom should soon back off.

No ones guaranteed overtime, unless you have a S/A contract fotr whatever period but it does say To continue to offer reasonable local earnings levels. To me that means some form of overtime must still be made available eg nights, belateds and rest days must still be maintained. When it comes to defineing "reasonable local earnings the local rep and dom would sort that out i would have thought.BELIAL wrote:Can't see any mention of guaranteed overtime , and who gets to define"reasonable local earningsjohnnypick wrote:disgruntledpostie1 thats not true frienddisgruntledpostie1 wrote:Whenever the flexibility kicks in there will be no OTpostmanpat wrote:wot happens if I want to earn a little extra cash.

I think we all know that no office will be able to work if there is no overtime. No amount of planning or flexibility can cover every eventuality and when the offices are stripped to the bare minimum (every year RM want savings of another 5%, this is almost another 280 hours in my office alone) the managers will be forced to beg and offer ludicrous amounts of OT just to clear them. 30 minutes flexibility won't come close, so work to your time and if you want OT hold out for the best deal you can get. As far as I'm aware enforced overtime is illegal. Unfortunately the offices with no rep or weak ones are being done over and the staff in them either don't know their rights or are too afraid of standing up for them. What can we do to help those offices? Most of us on here are lucky though some of us don't realise it.

The flexi working if done to the letter will not work we are having problems with it already,we should have started this week on the new agreed hours only to be told that its been suspended because they don't think they have the right hours agreed,we have also been informed about doing the job as it should be done to safe guard the mail to lessen the chances of bags being knicked so we offered to do the job to the letter only they asked us to carry on as we have as they have grave concerns that nearly all the deliverys in the office will fail and they do'nt have enough S/A's in place to deal with the deliverys that would fail,so you will still need O/T for those that want it as no amount of planning can cover every type of mishap.I think that the DOM who states there will be no O/T is living in the land of lala.
