Postal service is terrible, says widow

Post by johnnyp »

UPSET: Diana Gough, pictured by the postbox in Mill Street, Eynsham, is still waiting for a Mother's Day card to arrive
The widow of a former postman who is still waiting for a Mother's Day card to arrive has described Oxfordshire's postal service as "the worst it's ever been".

Diana Gough, whose husband Desmond worked at the Becket Street depot for 42 years, contacted the Oxford Mail after the county's first-class post was rated the fifth worst in Britain. Diana Gough, of Mill Street, Eynsham, has yet to see her son's Mother's Day card - even though it was posted more than a week ago.

Mrs Gough, 65, who was widowed 11 years ago, said: "Desmond worked at the Oxford branch for 42 years and never - and I mean never - has the Royal Mail been so bad.

"In all the years he was there our mail was delivered promptly and efficiently.

"The service certainly is not the service it was, even though we are told it is undergoing a wide-ranging modernisation. I still have not received my Mother's Day card.

"It's so important to me, as I'm now on my own, so you can imagine how upset I am.

"My son has said 'mum, the mail has just gone to pot since dad died'. In the last three days my mail arrived at 1.30pm, noon and 11.30am - does the Royal Mail think this is a modern service?"

Royal Mail spokesman Jane Thomas said: "We are always concerned to learn of problems with the delivery of mail."

Customers experiencing problems with mail delivery should call Royal Mail on 08457 740740.

It is pretty pathetic when all RM can say on behalf of it's service is give us a call if something aint right.
Surely by now with all the phone calls that they must have received they must be getting a pretty honest picture of how crap RM is. They had the answer 15 years ago when we were the best in the world but no lets try this new piss poor method and see if it works instead. A big hand to RM :Applause :Applause :Applause

Ring the Customer Services and you may well hear that Royal Mail are currently holding a consultative forum from customers where their views and input will be treated with the utmost disdain like all Royal Mails consultations.

And that sums it up perfectly. It is no longer a service, it is a business and the sooner these ,moaning, complaining 'customers' accept it the sooner RM can get on with the real job of destroying our terms and conditions and running the service provided down so far that the only alternative is an unopposed privatisation. By then the public won't care and unfortunately we are the ones that the public blame 'cos we're the ones who go on strike, we're the ones with no friends in the media and we're the ones they see every day. If only they listened to us last year, these stories that seem to be confined to local papers wouldn't be as common. There must be at least 2 or 3 a week, every one saying the same thing about how the service has detriorated blah, blah, blah. Well, we know, we care and we are not to blame.
