If you are too ill to go to a meeting let your manager know, if you are able then go, they may try and get you to come back even though you are too ill .if you have been off over a week then you will have a Dr's note to cover you

Where the employee’s absence is going to
be longer than a few days, the manager and
employee should agree how they will maintain
contact during the period of the absence,
both the level of contact - how often, and the
method e.g. email, telephone conversation.
This is to ensure that managers are kept fully
aware of the situation, can reallocate work and
plan ahead where necessary.

Contact between the absent employee and the
manager will have been established during
the first 2 weeks of the absence. It is vital that this continues as the absence extends
beyond 14 days.
Contact should normally
be weekly.
Involvement of the relevant CWU representative
can be helpful in maintaining contact and to
resolving cases promptly: it is recognised that
early resolution is beneficial to employees’ well
being. With the agreement of the employee,
the CWU representative should be involved in
absence review meetings and other activity
intended to facilitate an early return to work.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Yes ,they can and will threaten to stop pay for not complying.
I would ask for a home meeting or away from the workplace ,this usually puts them off.

It's no big deal is it, just attend if you feel up to it, if you don't as said above ask them to come to you

It is a big deal. It means you are fit to travel and can possibly work in the office. Your off sick ffs. Keeping management informed by telephone is absolutely and within official guidance. Don't let them run you down even further. I tell staff in my workplace the exact same thing although our managers are nowhere as crazy as these new breed at RM.

It's difficult to justify why any face to face meeting is necessary.
There's nothing that can't be said or covered in a phone call.
I've never turned up for one or even replied to a request for one.
Maintaining contact is necessary.
Going to work for it isn't.
Perhaps ask him if he'll take you for lunch?
That would be nice.
