Will probably get abuse for this but it is important to understand that

1. It was not the CWU who proposed to come off flights and make start times later. Royal Mail have attempted to do this for the last 10 years. They wanted to move start times up tp 3 hours later. No strike will change that as the business will not survive without offering a more environmental product to customers including bio diesel and come off flights.

2. The Escrow monies is Royal Mail’s own money and they had every right to take it and reduce their losses , the union secured the additional lump sum. We have been arguing for this for months and was one of the considerations when we agreed to take the 6% this year instead of the higher lump sum and 2%. We were confident we would get the escrow.

3. In terms of leaving the union , then I believe you will be at the mercy of everything Royal Mail wants without any collective to negotiate on your behalf.

4. Those who say join another union are clearly not thinking things through that union would not have any collective agreements paid meal reliefs , seniority , annual leave , sick leave , average holiday pay , delivery supplements etc the list is endless they are agreements with the CWU and not any individual or new union.

5. I will respect the vote whatever outcome as I did the Way Forward agreement but it is no good running away from the union if the vote is no because you need to own the next steps as it is going to get us into a very serious place very quickly.

On point 3, Martin, I do not see how you can claim the Union will protect us through collective bargaining, They have given away our contractual conditions without any benefit. Without collective bargaining CWU and RM could not give away these things.
Not only have they done that, they have managed to get a deal that is actually below the basic standards of the Employment rights act 1996. How on earth does any union think that taking away our statutory rights is something they should be doing. Oh I forgot they did this before when they put that no strike clause into the other agreement which is why we ended up where we are now.
I have stood with this Union for over 30 years, but I just cannot see any reason to stay following a yes vote, unless the union will pay for my legal team to fight for my rights as laid out in the Employment rights act.

You negate any point you might make by resorting to childish, immature insults. As soon as you come out with that you should be ignored. Pathetic.

As an example without CB we'd probably all now be working Sunday's on flat rate pay? Just look at the new starters contracts to see where we'd likely now be w/o the CWU, plus we probably wouldn't be potentially receiving the £900 bribe. In future w/o the CWU there would be no voting yes or no just an update from the company informing us of the changes they would be making to our T&C's each year and a payrise only if they felt like giving staff one.

The extra 2 hours in the winter.
Under the act, When variable hours are worked, pay should be averaged out over a maximum of 12 weeks. Under the deal we will not be paid for those extra hours until the following summer. That is well short of our statutory right.

It is indeed.

Thats why they want it voted in, in the sell out deal.

Along with everything else getting slashed for a chicken feed sum. Before coming back for the rest in 2025 if not sooner.
