Leaving the CWU

Post by Jonnygsxr »

I’ve been a member for twenty nine years , I’ve been a union rep and now a health and safety rep I feel so let down if the vote is YES I will be leaving and I feel most of us posties will do so .
How many of you feel the same way ?

Isn't leaving very much a case of cutting off your nose to spite your face?

I agree the CWU leadership has at best been incompetent that's for sure, but we are stronger together!

We need a change of leadership not a drop in membership that will solve nothing and if anything just make things worse!
Union what Union? Do we have a union?

You think about 50 000 posties will leave the union?
I doubt it.
What would it achieve?

I believe in the trade union movement.
I will remain a trade unionist.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Just being honest here but I absolutely hate these union guys now that are supposed to represent us. Letdown is the understatement of the year for me. Shambolic union in my mind. if this surrender deal passes they've hastened my exit from this company, I can only imagine the pain my scumbag manager will want to inflict on me when he thinks he has increased his masochistic power.

Not really will ask my office to join another union ( plenty out there ) and hope other offices do the same thus voting with our feet and money !!

I also believe in the trade union as many of us posties have done over the years but this time round they have been a shambles that Escrow payment was the final straw.

The CWU may have been a shambles in many members eyes.
That doesn't mean the trade union movement is a shambles.

No don't leave just vote for a different leadership and to do that you need to vote in all elections of the CWU and get better candidates for the offices at the top. Just leaving is defeating the object of democracy we need more and better people not less!

Much too late for the re voting who’s in or out. As for saying the trade movement is a shambles don’t be thick we need the Unions more then ever!! But in a better more equipped union to fight for our rights.

What exactly will this other union be doing for you, given that RM won't recognise them?

Will probably get abuse for this but it is important to understand that

1. It was not the CWU who proposed to come off flights and make start times later. Royal Mail have attempted to do this for the last 10 years. They wanted to move start times up tp 3 hours later. No strike will change that as the business will not survive without offering a more environmental product to customers including bio diesel and come off flights.

2. The Escrow monies is Royal Mail’s own money and they had every right to take it and reduce their losses , the union secured the additional lump sum. We have been arguing for this for months and was one of the considerations when we agreed to take the 6% this year instead of the higher lump sum and 2%. We were confident we would get the escrow.

3. In terms of leaving the union , then I believe you will be at the mercy of everything Royal Mail wants without any collective to negotiate on your behalf.

4. Those who say join another union are clearly not thinking things through that union would not have any collective agreements paid meal reliefs , seniority , annual leave , sick leave , average holiday pay , delivery supplements etc the list is endless they are agreements with the CWU and not any individual or new union.

5. I will respect the vote whatever outcome as I did the Way Forward agreement but it is no good running away from the union if the vote is no because you need to own the next steps as it is going to get us into a very serious place very quickly.

The last 6 months have shown what this union is all about. They are self centred , arrogant and extremely obnoxious. They has shown total disdain with their incredible lack of communication to us. They have treated us with contempt while enjoying their huge salaries , exorbitant expenses and fat cat pension fund. All at our expense. They have proven to be so untrustworthy it beggars belief .
We all new sacrifices would happen . We all new compromises would be made.
This is NO compromise - it's a total sell out of everything that has been won over the years.
The union does NOT deserve our loyalty - therefor certainly doesn't deserve our ££££'s.
