Libel and defamation action is definitely easier to bring about though, especially when the target is a union leader personally. You can’t make up something, plonk Dave’s name underneath it and be exempt. It is the easiest legal action to win. As I said, it was funny though. Just risky for everyone involved.

Libel and defamation cases are an expensive process - and to prove defamation (libel is spoken word) the party bringing the case would have to prove “serious harm” was caused to the reputation of the person(s)/party(s) involved.

So for starters, in this scenario any case brought would need to prove that this parody statement could have been believed to have been an actual statement by the CWU be a significant proportion of the union’s membership.

There is therefore very little prospect of a defamation case, if brought, being successful in this instance - especially as a high ranking member of the CWU commented that it was “very funny!”

I did find it very funny,but of lighthearted fun at this time. But what it says is that the members think the Union bigwigs are a joke. I remember Webby saying there was going to be so much communication,that we would get peed off with all the comms! If Dave,Andy,Webby or Martin are reading all these posts,then please let us know what the hell is going on. Don’t forget how much we backed the CWU when you called for our support. Don’t forget how much money we all lost. Don’t forget we pay your wages,so give us a lowdown of what if anything is going on with RM & CWU. I don’t think it’s a lot to ask,then we can have more clarity.
