While postal workers have been gathering around the table with trade unions demanding higher wages, Croatian Post is in search of over a hundred new postmen. Specifically, Croatian Post is currently looking to hire 134 workers, mostly on a permanent basis, across the entire country.
They are seeking 108 postmen for regular or express delivery, 17 operators for post offices, six newspaper delivery drivers for night shifts, two professional drivers, and one cleaner.
Croatian Post has been facing numerous departures in recent years, primarily due to low wages, resulting in significant challenges in filling vacant positions. The union also points out that such a situation is not sustainable in the long run.
In many job advertisements for new positions, Croatian Post states that the minimum requirement for a mail carrier is a primary school education or a three-year high school diploma. However, they do not disclose the expected salary.
Official data shows that Croatian Post employed around 8,720 workers last year, which is slightly fewer than the previous year. Many postmen have changed professions or sought employment abroad in search of better opportunities.
The average net salary for all employees at Croatian Post last year was around 930 euros, an increase of approximately 40 euros compared to the previous year. However, the average salary for mail carriers, including performance bonuses, is around 700 euros net per month, or approximately 5,300 Croatian kuna.
In addition to low income, mail carriers in the field also face numerous work-related injuries. Around 270 injuries were recorded last year. During the work process, 167 Croatian Post employees were injured, 23 had accidents on their way to or from work, 18 were bitten by dogs, and 61 were injured in robbery attacks, as reported by Danica.hr.
