The company cannot deliver the USO when the work is spread over 6 days, how on Earth do you expect the same amount of mail to be delivered in less working days (ie 5 days)?

If there not now they won't then it gives them room to cut costs more.
Lets face it - there is no need for a letter delivery on a Saturday - what is there that couldn't wait until the Monday or be posted a few days earlier to make sure it arrives before the Saturday?
In my opinion, the government's excuse about vulnerable people seems to be without validity - unless someone can enlighten me.
The real reason is that the government is smart enough to realise that there'd be thousands of job losses and that will cost them more votes than IDS struggling financially
You could argue that for any day of the week and suggest a 3 day service was sufficient? If we went down that path where do you think any savings would go, to the staff, ploughed back into the business or just passed to shareholders as dividends?
Exactly , it’s called mission creep, stop Saturday then they lobby to stop Tuesday, before you know it it’s a three day a week service, if there is a Labour government after the next election then I can’t see them granting it either. Anyone recall “summer savings” , that soon morphed into all year round , as will the extra time that they want us to “ flex”, as part of this agreement, they are being completely disingenuous about everything.
So let me get this straight, the union has delayed the ballot is currently in talks apparently to retain the USO with managers whilst at the same time these managers are also scheming behind the scenes in order to reduce the letters to a five day service? Blind, deaf and dumb comes to mind. You'll be lucky to even get three day service with these bunch of shysters in charge. Should have fleeced these turd bags soon as it came to light about the bonus scheme they get when they deliver on the tracked parcels.
Another Telegraph article in today's newspaper, apparently it's all the CWU's fault customers are not getting regularly deliveries and the only way to improve is for ST's replacement to defeat the union!

The writer seems to have overlooked that we haven't been on strike for months but the service still haven't improved.
I agree the price of a stamp should rise if the public want a Saturday letter delivery. If you call out a plummer it'll cost you more on a Saturday than a weekday.
The really dumb thing is that we live at a time when teenagers are actively seeking out cassette tapes, VHS and Vinyl as the novelty of "it's not instant" is now a desirable thing on Tiktok (or so my kids tell me!). How hard would it be for RM to sling some "influencers" a few quid and get them to promote sending letters? "It's slower but it's SO much more personal"...
