An update about lack of updates from an updater who has done tons of updates!
Hi everyone. I wanted to make this post in a personal capacity because there are so many questions about communications - or the lack of them.
Since Dave’s elected as GS and my appointment as Head of Comms we have built an engagement strategy that is the envy of every union in the movement. No other union fronts up its members like we do. Lives, videos, podcasts and members meetings.
That has understandably built a standard and an expectation. This coupled with Royal Mail’s relentless attacks on you has created an intensity and a need for information that we have never experienced before.
I want to deal with a few things - ‘the union are running scared of a live.” - bollocks. We are the only union that does them. The reason for the delay has been we want every piece of information out there before the live takes place so it’s the best event it can be. We are waiting on the later starts, news on potential lump sum and now their commitment on section 2.5 of the agreement. Have no doubt, when we call the live it will be open, it will be massive and it will not hold back in anyway whatsoever.
“the union are scared of a no vote that’s why no comms”. Again, total rubbish. The vote will be the vote. This is about making sure when you do vote that we have made every effort to force the employer to change tact. If they don’t, then you’ll see right through that.
“We haven’t had updates for days” - this situation is fluid, it is complex and it is risky. This isn’t a game. This is people’s livelihoods. Every decision we take has a consequence. They have no CEO, they are rudderless and the attacks continue. This isn’t about not wanting to speak to members - that’s the best part of the job. It’s about making sure that when we next come to you, it’s serious, and that we lay every single thing out.
We can see, feel and understand every single bit of frustration. But, please stick together. Don’t listen to mad websites, managers, keyboard warriors or political groupings that don’t even work for Royal Mail.
I am witnessing first hand the work Dave Ward, Andy Furey, the executive etc are putting in. I promise you, if you saw that you wouldn’t doubt the commitment, courage or strength of your union.
Keep digging us, keep demanding updates, keep challenging. That’s your right. But keep together too. That’s the only way we come out of this.
See you live - hopefully sooner rather than later!
Chris Webb

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Does Humpty Dumpty expect to be taken serious after his childish playground stunt at the House of commons along with Laurel and Hardy?
And they appointed you head of coms as a reward for being Dave Ward campaign manager during election as General Secretary and not elected into office.
The guy is a clown operating well above his paygrade, and it shows

He has been kicking the can down the road for the previous 12 months. This statement is only desperation, knowing his time is about up.
