Brexit was never implemented fully or even half the higher influx of people into the country tells you that, the tories are clearly remainers problem is starmer looks even worse he takes the knee for god sake.
We could have stayed in the EU and curbed immigration had we chosen to. The fact that we are now out of it and immigration is almost at record levels should tell you that.
Coincidentally I was reading an article today that explained how the EU pays off militias in Africa to lock up potential migrants, so they don’t reach EU countries. Ironically, by being out of the EU we have removed ourselves from this nasty practise and opened ourselves to more migrants from these countries too.
Do the militias in Africa interrogate the potential migrants and ask them where they are thinking of migrating to?
"You going to Spain or Italy? Right! It's in to the clink for you!"
"What's that you say? Wanting to migrate illegally to Britain? On your way then son!"
Aside from that - the illegal migrants who are crossing the Channel already made it to France or Belgium - so they are additional to the ones in Africa who were locked up.

Why not? Maybe they fill their heads with misinformation that persuades them that life in Britain is the epoch of easy-living for migrants, with Brits waiting at the shore, waving their Union Jack flags and beckoning them into their welcoming, friendly, migrant-loving society.
I have no idea why else they would want to come here. It must be a shock when they are shipped off to live two-in-a-room at an old pub or hotel and given pennies a week to live on.

Given that most, if not all, those who rock up on South Coast beaches seem to have working mobile phones, if it was so bad living in an old pub and given pennies why don't they inform those following in their footsteps that it's not worth the effort and expense?
Have any of these old pub-dwellers with pennies in their pockets ever asked to be returned home, wherever that may be?
Tea is actually grown from Cornwall to Perthshire. UK tea getting rather trendy.
I stand corrected but though Orkney tea might exist I doubt if it will ever be anything more than a very small niche market.
I can't see us being marched off to the countryside by the Khmer Rouge to work in the tea plantations.
But with global warming who knows? K9 might be right.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Wow a working mobile phone. Something that any 11 year old also owns. Must really be an easy touch here after all. Why would they ask to be returned home? Even I would rather live here than the hellhole most of them are fleeing from…just.

Can we all get oolong please? You want to try walking a chamomile in my shoes!!
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

So living in that old pub and with pennies in their pockets isn't that bad after all, then?
It depends what country they are fleeing from I guess. I’d rather live in an old barracks, virtually held prisoner and not allowed off grounds without supervision, given a few quid a week, than risk my life in a war zone, sure. People had no problem when it was migrants fleeing Ukraine arriving here, but anyone escaping Syria, for example, was made to feel unwelcome. I wonder what the difference is there? Hmm.
Despite your implication of racism, the major difference was the intention that Ukranians would eventually return "home" when safe to do so, whereas there was never any intention or plan that the Syrians etc would.

Probably because there is an actual chance of peace eventually in the Ukraine. Not so likely in the Middle East.

The religious/territorial conflicts in the Middle East aren't connected to the Syrian civil war or Assad's Russian-backed brutality, so when Assad meets his eventual demise there's no reason why those Syrian "refugees" couldn't return home.
But of course, they won't.

The factions involved in Syria are actively divided into distinct religious groups though, as they are in other conflicts throughout the region. When you have a territorial battle being fought along religious lines, simply removing one leader doesn’t seem likely to end the fighting. The war in Ukraine is ultimately territory based. One is easier to see a conclusion to than the other.
Either way, my original comparison was moot as we have hardly taken any Syrian refugees in, looking at the statistics.
