Royal Mail has apologised to a number of customers served by the West Park delivery office after repeated complaints over late parcels and post.

A handful of St Budeaux and Barne Barton residents contacted PlymouthLive after numerous Facebook posts in their local residents group highlighted the issue. Some residents said they had been waiting up to three weeks for a parcel to be delivered.

One resident, Pete Squires, said he realised the incident was "not isolated" to him after reading the Facebook post and he attempted to resolve the matter himself.

Mr Squires said his tracking information stated his parcel was due to be delivered on Wednesday, May 17. The tracking information said it was 'due to be delivered' on the day, but one minute later the tracking information updated to say West Park delivery office was 'unable to attempt delivery'.

He then decided the visit the delivery office on Saturday, May 20, to collect his undelivered parcels. Upon arriving, he was asked to present the missed delivery card, but because delivery was never attempted, he was not able to provide it.

He said: "I explained that I hadn't received one as the postman had not visited my residence. The staff member insisted that without the card, they were unable to assist me. However, I pointed out the tracking history indicating that the parcels were ready for collection, and I inquired about the process for collecting my parcels without the card. After a prolonged exchange, my parcels were eventually retrieved."

Royal Mail said the delays are due to 'resourcing issues' and arrangements have been put into place to 'lessen the impact' on customers. Anyone who is experiencing delays should contact Royal Mail directly.

A Royal Mail spokesperson said: “We are sorry some residents served by our West Park delivery office have experienced delays. Over the last few weeks, the local service has been impacted by resourcing issues which has led to some delays.

“Arrangements have been made to lessen the impact on the customer and additional resources have been brought in to assist. We expect the service to begin improving moving forward.

“We encourage anyone with concerns about the delivery of their mail to contact Royal Mail customer service on 03457 740 740 or via www.royalmail.com.”
