Re: auto redelivery
It means less booking in, putting away, retrieving and serving customers.
It is designed to decrease the footfall in Customer Service Points to justify the reduction in opening hours.

Re: auto redelivery
Might be indirectly linked to RM wanting barcodes on everything. For stuff with a barcode the PDA could keep a list of items that are 739'd then when you get back to the DO they could have you scan a special barcode which would use the data encoded in the 2D barcodes and book everything in that's in the list lept by the PDA of 739'd itemsclashcityrocker wrote: ↑14 May 2023, 08:22It means less booking in, putting away, retrieving and serving customers.

Re: auto redelivery
They have the data that the item has been carded as soon as you select ‘No Answer’ and ‘Submit’. That’ll have gone to the cloud straight away.
If you don’t actually scan the item again back at the DO there is a big presumption that the item is still in your possession. I think scanning the item again when you return covers you that you did actually bring the item back because of the GPS coordinates of the latest scan is at the office.
I have actually been surprised that I have delivered more items the next day than I thought - but then I was thinking there was about zero chance of getting rid the second time! Discounting the second day being a Saturday, a few items have been clearer on the 2nd attempt during the week. Nationally I don’t know if it is working OK or not and I still think knocking on a door at say 10 am on a Tuesday morning with no answer will most likely be the same on Wednesday at the same time. Maybe if people in your local area have part-time jobs or changing shift patterns etc. would show more successful re-deliveries but if all your houses have people with mostly 9-5 Monday to Friday jobs it will not help at all.
What other courier offers an auto re-delivery option? A quick Google search mentions DPD for specific senders (like Vodafone) do it – perhaps up to three times. However, I couldn’t see a blanket 2nd re-delivery attempt from a another company.

Re: auto redelivery
I assume the answer is how many parcels are left in the locker each night compared to before AR?
RM is really sending out a message to posties to try and deliver parcels on the first attempt or otherwise you could be stuck trying to deliver it up to 2 further times, as was the case with one I had this week.

Re: auto redelivery
Because it's what all the other couriers do. Combined with the fact that items can still be booked in as normal after the second attempt, customers have the best of both worlds. To be honest, most mine go by the second attempt which I was actually quite surprised about. It's annoying, but I can see why they've done it.claystones wrote: ↑14 May 2023, 08:01Can anyone tell me the the point of auto redelivery it doesnt seem helpful at all

Re: auto redelivery
Whats behind it is they want you to doorstep dump throw over the fence like every other courier does. Because then they can say first time delivery rates are really high. How do they achieve this. By pissing the posties off so much with auto redelivery and the extra work that brings. But of course they wont admit that and when it goes wrong and parcels go missing they can always blame the postie get rid and replace with a lower paid colleagueclaystones wrote: ↑14 May 2023, 08:01Can anyone tell me the the point of auto redelivery it doesnt seem helpful at all

Re: auto redelivery
Wish they just created a ready made 1st attempt delivery card which you don't need to fill out any details (maybe the date/time) because there's nothing the customer can do with that card, accept wait for the next day delivery attempt. It would speed up delivery and you could wait under shelter in the pouring rain for 10 seconds without trying to write out a wet card. The 2nd attempt you then write out a full p739 with all the details.

Portable printers are getting really small now. If RM were to have it so that the failed 1st delivery items are booked in, could the PDAs be rigged to keep all the needed details for a 739 for all 2nd delivery attempts? With a small enough portable printer in theory you could have the PDA print off a 739 using the data its got stored1560loopsayear wrote: ↑15 May 2023, 10:10Wish they just created a ready made 1st attempt delivery card which you don't need to fill out any details (maybe the date/time) because there's nothing the customer can do with that card, accept wait for the next day delivery attempt. They can make an inflight request, changing the date or location, or nominate a neighbour.1560loopsayear wrote: ↑15 May 2023, 10:10Wish they just created a ready made 1st attempt delivery card which you don't need to fill out any details (maybe the date/time) because there's nothing the customer can do with that card, except wait for the next day delivery attempt.
To do that they need information.

Darren would stick his spare rizzler papers in the printing slot where they’d inevitably get stuck.
Keith would ‘forget’ to put a new roll of paper in before his day off so it wouldn’t print and besides the office was only allocated 7 spare rolls for all 50 PDAs.
Your COM would say because it’s speeded things up you now need to take quadruple lapsing.
Dave Ward would get giddy and do a 3 hour Facebook video about us printing off people’s prescriptions for them and calling via the pharmacy on our rounds.
And either way it won’t function in the cold, heat, dry or wet.
The day is gonna come when we’re all gonna have to testify.

A lot of office workers now, myself included, work from home 2 days a week. 60% at the office seems to be common. So there is fair chance if you attempt to deliver one day to an office worker and they are not in, they're likely be in the next day and more likely the third.

The darn cheek of people in my area as they all must be a bunch of surgeons, dentists, retail shop assistants, mechanics, cleaners, carers, production line works, soldiers, police officers, paramedics, fire fighters, bus drivers, cabbies, bin men, pilots, gardeners, butchers, bakers...Jahpostie wrote: ↑15 May 2023, 18:37A lot of office workers now, myself included, work from home 2 days a week. 60% at the office seems to be common. My experience has been very different to this. I think I have had maybe one person who wasn't in on day one be in on day two since it started.Jahpostie wrote: ↑15 May 2023, 18:37A lot of office workers now, myself included, work from home 2 days a week. 60% at the office seems to be common.
